Social Security Stimulus Check 2010 – FAQ

I was told that we were getting the stimulus check before Christmas of 2009. Just wondering if this is a true statement. I was in my Doctor’s office on October 15th & they had on CNN news that we were getting a Stimulus check before Christmas 2009. Please verify if this is true. I just looked it up online & it states that we are getting in May of 2010.

My question is the same as above..I receive SS! plus SS Will I get 2 checks????When?? How?? do I need to do anything? I did not recieve check last May…How can i get that one???

I heard about the stimulus check! I’m on SSDI so i know i’m eligible. My question is my friend told me it wasn’t going to be 250.00. It was going to be lesser? is this true?

Is the stimulus check proposded be distributed before or after Christmas of 2009?
I would like to have some feedback from people who are wondering about the same issue and are senior citizens or disabled or both like I am.

i hope this econemy can be turned around ,it is a shame for those of us that grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and had the world at our feet i don’t have any faith in president obama ,put i wish him the ver best in making things better

I would like to know what world the GOVERNMENT lives in to say that the cost of living did NOT go up this year!!! Did they forget to tell BILL?? You know phone BILL, gas BILL, water BILL, electric BILL, grocery BILL??? IF it were not for the generosity of neighbors and church members I would be on the streets with NO food !!! I know the President said he was once on food stamps but IF he had to live off what we now receive per month from the government he and his family would starve !!! How are you supposed to live on 721$ a month AND pay BILLS and buy food?? Let them walk in our shoes for 1 month and by the 15th of the month they would be wondering just like us.

I can’t believe they say the cost of living has not gone up!??? I went grocery shopping and the dollar pizza is now 28 cents more! I get 12 dollars on food stamps, i can’t live off of 700 dollars a month!

I receive both ssi and disability, do I get two checks from the government? I can barely make rent, let alone pay bills. I get hungry too. What will I do to survive? I should become a politican, then I would always have money!!!

I just can’understand how people on this site can afford the internet if they can’t afford to eat….

I didn’t say people shouldn’t have a few things they like to do only that people do have to make choices. I’am not someone with lots of money either. I only get social security and it is hard to survive yet i do have to be very careful with my money. People can have all the luxury’s they can afford but why complain about not having enough food and not be willing to give up some things. Internet is expensive were I live and it is only something i will have until the contract i have runs out at which i probably will not be able to afford it. I hope ia can yet i may not be able to……

Anxiety is high among elderly, disabled, etc. recipients of SS and SSI monthly payments. Now this angst is exacerbated by the long-awaited information as to if, when, and how these checks will be distributed. I empathize with these needy folks and, I am one. I would ask that Congress immediately pass this Social Security $250 bill as a means to relieve both anxiety and financial depression. Why make the suffering deliberate this issue any further? It simply makes the sick sicker, depressed more depressed, and worst of all, the hungry and cold hungrier and colder. Otherwise, why get our hopoes up?

while $250.00 doesn’t sound like a lot it would really help. I have plans for the money so i hope we get it. To obama who has the money for a $4,000.00 a night for 2 weeks for a christmas get away it really seems like a drop in the bucket but to us it would really help. A note to Ayzle Laird – I am writing this from the PUBLIC LIBRARY – where I have free access to the internet. I do wish that I could afford my own computer, printer and internet, though – every month I end up generating zillions of letters to the SSA, county agencies, Medicare, Medicaid, doctors & hospitals – not to mention the many, many creditors after me for past medical bills I can’t pay. Having these items would not be a luxury for me, but would be a great help since I would then not have to waste gas, wear/tear on vehicle, time/effort when I can hardly get around my own apartment much less go out to do this. Just another (friendly) piece of the bigger picture for you!

ayzle laird- I’m sorry to hear about your health problems. I’m really lucky because i have both medicare & medicaid. My medicare deductible is paid by medicaid and i have share of cost for medicaid that is paid by 4 days a month if i go to a gov. counseling session. I live in Florida. I get subsidized housing which is good but living on 700 hundred a month is hard when you pay rent,elect.,food,phone,waterbill etc. my hardest thing is keeping food on the table . I get 12 dollars in foodstamps which helps but food has become expensive.

I pay 800 month for rent i get no food stamps no medical meaning no medicare or welfare insurance. After rent phone electric cable im broke. Oh plus food. My son helps me out a little no internet either my daughter has internet so thats when i get on a computer. Life right now is so hard and no raise for two years its sOooooo darn crazy. Funny how when i went to BJs with my daughter these black people had three shopping carts full of food. That they used there Food Stamps must be nice to say your not with the father when you really are with him. Whats the world coming too.
Hope this joke of a president does as he promised cause right now its all talk.

I am on SSI and did not get the #250 the first time and had to call SS to find out why and they stated that my wife’s retirement was to high and I was not eligible. My wife’s retirement is nothing to brag about and I know people that got the $250 and their spouse makes more then mine. This country has gone to the dogs and those of you that voted for this poor excuse for a president are getting what they deserve!! Until this man is out of office the seniors and poor will suffer like never before and he will spend as much money as he can get away with until the people change the way congress and the president works. Vote to have term limits on these professional politicians and bring new blood to our congress. Example, Sen. Bryd is 92 years old and has an aid push him around in a wheel chair when in congress, what is this country coming to? My prayers are with a new change and a better life for all Americans. Start helping Americans first and other countrys last if at all.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I live in east orange , new jersey and my rent increases 4% annually. By not recieving a COL in my income this is making it very hard for seniors like me to continue to live here. What am I suppose to do?
My one son lives in this area and I would like to live nearby him for emotional and physical support

I am on disability, have been for almost 8 yrs. I managed to work a little in 2008..I made 3200 the entire year & I was told I’d get the $600 stimulus check then…My wife passed in 2007 so I was upposedly eligible for the $600…I NEVER got it. I ended up losing our house, our car & most of our furniture just to survive. Now they say I’ll get $250 whenever they get off their asses and decide to send it. I am not going to hold my breath waiting for it. I still have a few things I can sell.

I absolutly agree with Ms. GOLDEN IT IS NOT THE PRESIDENTS FAULT.. he is doing more then any one before him.He inherited this mess, I am tired of people blaming him..I am struggling BUT I AM grateful for all the government assistance I DO GET .. without it I would be sunk..Let 2010 be a year of gratitude instead of just complaint..That is what I have decided to do.. To be thankful for what I do have..instead of complaining.And I support Obama and his efforts…

This president didn’t make this mess, congress did, and the current congress just continues it – all this “no, no, no” to everything isn’t helping – congress rules everything, democrat and republican, they do what they want, when they want, and they care only about their own egos – its time for a new system – this one doesn’t work – I pray they get it together and get this money out to those of us trying to survive on SS – and no, this was not my retirement plan! Didn’t plan to lose my 401 to bankruptcy, become disabled and have to retire at 55 before I could re=coop any 401 losses! We’re not all stupid, or looking for handouts, but a handup wouldn’t hurt this congress.

I am a single Mother of 2 girls on SSD due to the fact I have multiple diseases and a broken back. We do receive Food Stamps and SSD, but it is not enough and it is tough to make it to the end of the month. My youngest put it best yesterday when we passed a homeless person and she said “Mommy we don’t have it great, but at least we have a warm house and food!” I almost cried! Leave it to a child to put us adults in our place. I know it is hard on all of us that cannot earn a living. I hate it! I would give anything to be able to work again! But, we have to realize God has a plan for all of us and we have to trust in him or we have NOTHING!! God Bless everyone in 2010~

I am on SS Disability. I worked all my life to earn this?……and for what?? This is very frustrating that members of Congress can say the cost of living has NOT gone up. Every time I go in the stores, everything keeps rising. I would like to know where in the world do they get their statistic!! . Everything has gone up and keeps going up, no matter it be food, gas, utilities. We had two increases in our electricity in 2009, and another one coming up in 2010. I agree that $250 is better than nothing, but it sure isn?t going to go far in paying the bills. Big whopping deal!! I have to live on less than $700 a month. I would like to see them live on what they give us, and then say the cost of living hasn?t risen. If they can bail out all these organizations, banks and what have you, then they should take care of us, their own people as well, who are striving day by day to make a living. The government sure finds money for everything else. What?s going to happen when we have to start paying for the health insurance? President Obama is trying his best, but as far as I can see, this government has already gone to pot?…..and it sure as heck isn?t the kind you smoke!!

I just wanted to comment about talking about affording the internet. my internet is only $12.95 a month and believe it or not it helps people .if you don’t have money to go out on, at least you can get online and maybe surf and look up things.like my grandbaby she loves horses so we look up running horses. and she loves to draw. want to know how i afford the $12,95 amonth we’ll i take all of the food adds i get and comepare prices and then shop at walmarts. not for everything, but it pays for my internet and more. plus gas.also we all get to here everybobys input on the stimulas check among others things right.

george h- I seem to think it was forgotten too. I hope not but no word about the 250 rebate check has not been heard from since Oct.14,2009. No raise on SSDI but food,rent,elect. cost etc. has gone up! Let’s cross fingers we get a break and receive it. It’s not much but will definitely help! Happy New Years~
