Social Security Stimulus Check 2010 – FAQ

When will the $250 Social Security stimulus check be mailed?

This is not known at this time but if the bill passes Congress then it is expected that the checks will be mailed sometime in the first quarter of 2010.

Will Social Security Payments Be Paid If United States Defaults On Debt?

Will there be a stimulus check in 2010

Yes, there will be a $250 stimulus check for social security recipients as well as a $250 stimulus check for SSI recipients as well.

How much is the 2010 Social Security raise?

Unfortunately because inflation was so low in 2009 there is no cost of living increase or “raise” in the Social Security payments for 2010.  This has however given rise to the $250 Social Security stimulus check which will be payable in 2010.

Will seniors get the $250 stimulus check?

You have to be receiving Social Security, SSI and a few other select criteria in order to receive the check.

What should I do with my $250 check?

There are many options for this money.  Admittedly it’s not a huge pile of cash but every little bit counts!

  • Reduce debt – If you have any outstanding credit card debt or personal debts then $250 would probably help to pay it down.
  • Buy something – Need some new clothes or want to buy an consumer item?  If your finances allow this then the $250 can be used for that.
  • Donate it – If you don’t need the money then give it to someone who really needs it.  A charity, relative or friend would probably really appreciated the cash.

Kim, The proposed $250.00 check has not been approved by Congress yet. Not to be a dark cloud, but I am not sure if the Congress will approve it. The proposed stimulus check to Social Security recipients would cost a little over 3 billion dollars. With Republicans wanting to cut costs I think it would be more than they would approve. But who knows. More odd things have happened.

BRENDA – what are you talking about? The 250 rebate check for 2010 has not been approved yet! Congress still has not passed it and painful as it seems doubt we will get it because Obama has not mentioned a word of it since Oct. 14,2009.

g!na, thanks, I have said this twice now on this subject. It has not been mentioned at all this fall or winter. The President do not even bring any simularity at all of the stimulis check. It seems like to me that this is not going to happen this year.

Thanks, Mike – I’m a dingbat sometimes!

For those of you like me whose expected income tax refund was reduced by $250, check out the following link for the explanation:

http://taxes.about.com/od/deductionscredits/a/making_work_pay.htm

Turns out that those of us on Social Security who have the audacity to still work (like we could simply retire on our millions) are only eligible for a $150 credit since they reduce the $400 Making Work Pay credit by any economic recovery money you received. Too bad the filing instructions aren’t more clear on this – even H&R Block’s e-file program fills it in wrong! Oh well…….

I can’t make it anymore,no money to pay the heat can’t afford public transportation, not enough to eaat and things are just getting worse,I’m going to afghanistan where there is work for everybody harvesting opium poppies, enough money to own a ramshackle shack,a goat and that’s 100x what I got here. Mr. Pres. When you start rounding up the homeless to give them a choice between a bullet and moving into a designated homeless area let me be the first volunteer for your bullet. Good luck everyone I hope you and your family are fairing better.

Thanks for Gov. Schwartzenegger, those on SSI saw payments go from $907 a month to $845 a month. Thanks, Arnold…

would the man who said his service connected va was cut off because someone had called the va and reported he was cutting grass for mone yI dont rember his name could you post something again .

I sure wish the congressmen and senators would have to live off of what we retired people do. They would starve to death. They should get right on this $250.00 social security bonus and get the checks out to us. Instead they would rather give it to the banks and insurance companies so they can hand it out as bonuses for their executives and have big parties. I sure we will not get the money because we are just little people, no one important like the bank executives, etc. Those lieing cheating scoundrels should be fired not given a bonus.

I just found out about this because a friend of mine just got his today. So there will be one this year. I wish we could find out exactly when each of us will recieve ours.

Pam, I don’t see how a friend of yours got his check we all have been talking about. You see, I called the Social Security Dept. They said it had not been approved for this year (2010). They said if and when Congress approved it that everybody would be notified through the mail with infomation on when and how much that will be. As far as I know this notice has not been mailed as of this comment being written. So it looks like we are still on hold. I am fairly confident that this bill will not be passed this year. I hope I am wrong on this one we will just have to wait and see, because Washington sure isn’t talking.

We’ll be very lucky if they don’t start privatizing social security, or worse yet, ‘reforming’ it as Clinton did with welfare – which has led to the average age of homeless now being nine years old. Just as it takes a Republican to go to China, it takes a Democrat to screw the working class.

?We must also tackle what is by far our greatest economic challenge ? the reduction of budget deficits ? a big part of which will involve reforming our major entitlement programs: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.?……….Paulson – Barack Obama is now saying SS and medicare as well as medicaid are all ‘on the table.’ We’re really not out of the woods yet.

I am currently getting ssd benefits. I was approved last may 2009. Will I be elegible for the 250.00 stimulus payment in 2010?

i think the president needs to take care of the 250.00 and tess congress the people need the money, our heat not getting any cheaper.all ssd people needs more then they get.

Do you know at what stage is the $250 bill in the Congress?
Do you know when will Congress pass the $250 stimulus bill for 2010?
Would you please let me know when we will receive the $250.

i am a disabled gentleman , broken back, just found out i have a form of cancer inside my ear , that my ear will be removed soon, i am raising my two daughters one 11, one 16, i am hurting with money, we have lived in our car four months over the last two yeaars we do not want to go back we need the stim ulis check badly if anyone hears any good news please let me know

there will be a stimulus check we should get them sometime in march n i read it myself but i dont know where it was but yes for my goddesses n gods sakes we are gettin it be patient plz

I had to file with the IRS to get my stimulus last year, as did everyone else I know?so I wonder how some say they didn?t have to file..just curious?maybe a ?senior? moment of forgetfulness? lol

I didn’t file with the IRS and I got the stimulus check! @ Jesse – it is purely a disgrace that people should be living in a car in the richest nation in the world!

just got this from social security and it sucks……

Social Security Administration.

there is no stimulus for 2010.

Well that says that there WILL be a stimulus check in 2010 – although I am doubtful. The truth is that our government fears the bankers and Wall St gamblers – not us. And from my research, I am convinced the gov is planning to reduce and possibly privatize SS and medicare, etc. Please Google “general strike” – they can do ANYTHING to us if we don’t resist!

i heard that we werent getting a stimulus check this year. and Brandon said he got his today? congress hasnt made up their minds on that issue. so makes me wonder what the hell is going on. cause social security said we werent getting one this year but congress got a big fat raise and doesnt give a damn about us.as long as their walletts get fatter.they dont care about the people struggling in our COUNTRY!!!!people are so apt to help another country when we have children starving right here in the UNITED STATES,people living in cars and eatting out of dumpsters, yet people look the other way.

they are dragging their feet about the stimulus, the longer it takes the more i wonder if its gonna get passed.they meaning congress got their raise i know i could use that extra $250.00,and i know others could also.

congress should approve the stimulus checks for 2010,hes approving money to go out of state, why when we need it in the us,sending it overseas isnt helping us….

i think the congress needs to get busy.we all need the 250.00 things are so high.nothing getting any cheaper.what is the hold up does anyone know.good luck to everyone and god bless each one.

I wish the bastards on Wall St and the banks could read these messages. Hell I wish they were actually in financial difficulties, but no – they are increasing their bonuses (their reward for robbing us all) and probably buying a few extra houses and yachts………….. they belong in jail, but the American people aren’t going to do a thing, and the government is bought and paid for. Listen to us? Wer’re begging for pennies – and I don’t think that pitiful $250 is even going to happen. We didn’t get a COLA this year (tho’ as someone pointed out everything else is still going UP) and here in California, SSI was CUT considerably.

I am so disgusted when I read some of these comments of people living out of cars. Whats happened to this society? Whats happened to help thy neighbor? It’s sad, but the only way the system is going to understand exactly what we the little people are going through, is if we put some of these people that are supposed to be looking out for us on park benches, in alleys, and in their cars for a few days, and tell them that their meals will be in soup kitchens, or at McDonalds dumpster after closing time. I would be willing to bet that their attitudes would change after a few cold, and hungry nights. No one, and especially children should ever be homeless in a country as bountiful as America, yet it is allowed to happen. Things need to change, and if we don’t start speaking out now, our government will continue to turn a blind eye to what has become an epidemic. I have heard so many times that a person needs to help themselves, but you can only do so much on a fixed income. We need to remind the government that charity starts at home. I’m not saying we shouldn’t help less fortunate countries, but we need to take care of our own first. I guess what I really want to say is give people the 250.00, and quit dangling the idea of this proposal like a carrot on a stick. I too am disabled, and I can assure you that I could use it, as I am sure that there are people out there by far worse off than me.

i would like to hand those greedy congress men my ssi check and tell them to live a day in MY shoes.those wouldnt make it one day nevermind a month, they got their raises they get every year for sitting on their a$$e$! we need the raise we need the stimulus check dammit we need HELP!!!!!!!! i havent heard from social security at all, and the congress is to busy helping other countries instead of helping their own.ok yes i know haiti had a major earth quake , but before that happened we had and still have poor people here needing help. where isn it? no where

if Congressional salaries were tied to the minimum wage and social security, so min wage and soc. sec would be a percentage of congressional salaries and they couldn’t raise their wages without raising ours, we’d we in much better shape.

As badly as I need the 250.00 and as frustrated as I am to get it, I just have to thank God that I am not huddled under a cold and wet tent in Chile or that I am not the 10 year old child barely able to stand in Haiti……crying for parents I don’t know if I will ever see again. You get the picture. Hope that helps you as much as it helps me.

Beth B- you are so right! thank you for saying that. I need to thank god more for my blessings. Even though i’m poor i have it better than a lot of people. I have shelter, food, clothes, and my family! i am lucky not to be in Haiti or Chile. Those poor people have none of that.

The current legislators (congress and senate) are responsible for the situation we are currently in. You can definitely send a message of your total dissatisfaction with their performance by voting them OUT of office in the next fall elections. I am encourageing all voters to vote AGAINST any incumbent. If that happened, then we could begin pressing for them to get rid of the life-long perks such as fully paid medical benefits which continue for them and their families even after they leave office which they currently enjoy at the expense of YOU, the taxpayer. If YOU don’t vote them out, you have only YOU to blame for the continuation of the present situation.

We need to take action. Something along the lines of a general strike – OK many of us are no longer working, so let’s consider targeted boycotts. The rich are running this country into the ground, and they WANT more inequality. Poverty means more for them.

Senate rejects $250 checks for elderly
Thu?Mar?4, 9:47?am?ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? A measure to give some 57 million elderly people, veterans and persons with disabilities a $250 check was rejected by the Senate on Wednesday, a setback for the powerful seniors’ lobby.
President Barack Obama has called for Congress to approve the payments to make up for their benefits not increasing this year, but the Senate defeated it 50 to 47.
The payments would have added $13 billion to a $108 billion job-creation package pending in the Senate.

What state are you in? It’s the senate that is doing all this stuff mostly. But you should call or contact your congressperson. The right wing has basically destroyed the social safety net – only they had HELP – Clinton, for one.

I am wondering if the President can do anything to reverse Congresses decision to ax our precious money? Can’t He veto the decision or something else to insure we get this money in the end? I’m not politically knowledgeable about these things, but I’m sure the President can do something because He really wanted us to have this money. Or am I guilty of “Wishful Thinking” again?

THE STIMULUS WHAT A JOKE JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE GOV SAYING ONE THING AND DOING ANOTHER, AND WE KEEP BELIEVING THEM BECAUSE WE KEEP ELECTING THEM TO OFFICE
