my husband and i our retirees, when will we get our one time 250.00 stimulus check.

Mr. Muffy if you are to lazy to contact your local SS Office on your mother’s behalf it really doesn’t matter, your mother will still get what belongs to her, and for hersake I hope that she has direct deposit also that you are not her primary care giver.

This stimulus package sucks. What is $250 going to do for anybody. I am for making more jobs for people because I am one of the many unlucky people who have been laid off work. I thought there was supposed to be a check for everyone. What happened to that idea. What about those of us that are trying to make ends meet. They talk about all of these corporations that are hard up on money but didn’t they make the economy this way by becoming greedy and jacking their prices anyway. Now the average person can’t afford them. A tax break will help a little but were talking about people who are worried about paying rent and groceries. They should come and live in the average person shoes awhile and make minimum wage, raise 2 children in a household where your wife works also, pay for childcare so you can keep those jobs and see how they make things work.

Why should people on SSI (Supplemental Security Income) have to wait until May 2009 to get the $250 stimulus check? The government already has all the names of everyone on SSI and the checks get deposited every month. It’s ridiculous to have to wait until the end of May 2009 to get the money. Why doesn’t the government just include it in the March 1st check? The hard times are NOW, not in two months. I need the money now because I need glasses and food. I was hoping for more than $250 because I need dental work done. In Alabama, Medicaid does not pay a dime for and dental work for anyone over 21. In Alabama the SSI check is only $674 a month. That’s it every month. The state does not add any money to that check. If you live in other states, like California, the state adds an additional $600 or more each month. Those lucky people! In North Carolina all your dental needs are taken care of no matter what age you are. Why can’t Alabama have some of these great rules. Here is Alabama the Governor won’t even take the additional unemployment insurance money to help those that are laid off. What is wrong with Alabama? I need dental work and glasses, and there is a clinic down the road but it’s only for Hispanics. I’m not Hispanic. Is this fair? I don’t think so. If there was a clinic only for Caucasians there would be such a fuss that it would probably be bombed. What is wrong in Alabama? I think the leaders are crazy. All the children under 21 get everything medical and dental for free and if you are over 65 you get extras through the Agency on Aging, but if you are in between those ages you cannot get any help paying for a dentist or getting any kind of CPAP, BiPAP or VPAP machines. But if you are Hispanic you can go to many clinics and don’t even have to pay a co-pay for medical, dental or vision care. Does this make any sense to anyone?

This is to your message; My daughter did not ask to be born with a disability. But she was. I am home taking care of her. And one thing she is not an alcoholic or a drug addict. Also I am unable to work do to a doctor botching up my carpal tunnel surgery. Now I face more surgeries. How would you like to not be able to have feeling in your hand. Not a fun thing to have. I would rather be out working then sitting here dealing with doctors, But here I am. Also I am a single mom getting by on what we get and I do not get welfare. And I am not a drug or alcohol addict you can piss test me anytime you want. Don’t you dare sit there and judge people because they are on s.s.i unless you know the facts why they are on it. And don’t label them all as drug and alcohol addicts. You don’t live with them so you don’t know them….. There is only one true Judge and that is god. Please is this a joke or what. Anyone on ssi which is another word for welfare unless it is a very serious illness should not be included. Half of the people on ssi are alcoholics or drug addicts. I don?t want to give money for booze and drugs.

I can’t believe some of these comments…You should appreciate every dime you get from the government…I have worked all my life also but recently had to quit due to my sons’ disease now guess what “I’m on welfare”…I’m not a drug addict or anything else that was said about welfare drawers…I try to do the best I can for my family and I don’t think it’s right for ppl to judge anyone…Of course there are ppl they don’t deserve things but it’s not for me to judge or anyone else for that matter…I would like to see some of you walk in my shoes because you’d never make it…I’m sure alot of you would be in the welfare line also before starving..So there’s you something to think about….

I personally went to my local Social Security Office and asked and was told that YES.. people who receive SSI (supplemental security income) will indeed receive the $250 stimulus check.

I went disabled at 27 years old. I hate it. I hate living under the governments thumb b/c without it me and my kids don’t eat or have a place to live. My monthly income is a measley $694 a month. But ya know what, I am grateful for every damn dime I get b/c right now it pays me rent, lights, water, car insurance and my internet and phone so I can finish school.

$250 buys alot of clothes for my kids, alot of diapers, alot of toilet paper.
For those THAT haven’t lost everything, their houses, their cars, their precious CC, quit griping and thank your lucky stars your alright before you slam someone else. When you can walk the walk after talkin the talk, let me know.

No I do not apologize for what I said. If anyone bothered to read the post it stated the remark was not meant for anyone with a serious disability. If you must know I worked darn hard from 1959 until 2004. The difference between ssi and ssd is you never had to work to collect ssi. Furthermore I just got out of the hospital again recently. I pay 96 a month for medicare, 54 for supplemental insurance and now have a copayment of 925 for being admitted to the hospital. SSI does not have to make these payments even though they are not required to have ever paid into social security.
So put yourselves in my shoes. As for ke4fee you need help if you wish terrible things on people. I did not say all people on ssi are drunks but a good number are.

I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that 1) Obama isnt goig o be able to fix EVERTHING at once. Yes,he’s doing what he can to help with foreclosures and insurance and what not.Yes, there are lots of other things that need to be addresses. But things like this take time. 2) Putting loads of money into car factories and other plants might create more jobs, but just because the neighborhood Ford factory gets to stay open doesn’t mean people are going to buy the cars. The fact remains that the general public can’t afford to buy the car! So why bother putting millions of dollars into factories so they can waste it on building a product that won’t sell? Am I the only one that thinks that’s a waste of money? I think I speak for the majority of America when I say “Give it to the people!” 3) And this is personal. I agree with all the others on here that are unemployed, DISABLED, and so on. My mother was the boss at a court reporting firm in D.C. for several years. Her husband threw her backwards over an antique chair and injured her spine. That was when I was 4 years old. She CONTINUED to work for 5 years after that, even doing home improvement with my stepfather to make sure my brothers and I had everything we needed. Now she’s single, still raising my little brother, and only draws 637 dollars a month. That’s to pay rent, utilities, gas in her car, doctor visits, medicine, and food. She only gets 150 dollars a month for food for the both of them. Is it her fault she was injured 21 years ago? Who can say that she doesn’t deserve to live a comfortable life just like the rest of us? I feel sorry for anyone who says that disabled people don’t deserve the same help as working people do. What, are we going to let them starve or freeze in the cold so that we can continue in the tradition of greed and hate that for so long has plagued our economy? Let us not forget that it was greed that got us here in the first place. I dare ANYONE to try to live their life off of 800 dollars a month and smile about it while the CEO’s on Wall Street are walking away from companies that they caused to go bankrupt, and still line their pockets with gold. How much did they end up with in the end, a few million dollars a piece? Why didn’t THEY foot the bill when their own companies faltered? Who said it was okay for the taxpayers to pay for their 10 bedroom houses and vacation properties? I say if there is a stimulus, it needs to go to the American people, not the greedy pigs that got us here in the first place. And first and foremost, instead of feeding the hungry people in other countries, why can’t we start with our OWN poor and homeless right here in our own homeland?

I used Google but if you aren’t careful, you’ll get a bunch of info from last years stimulus tax rebate. The site that I posted was the info at the beginning of this very forum… I’ll post it again but the most information I got was from the regional Social Security Office here in northeast Tennessee.
The information I got was that the last round (last year) was in the realm of a true tax rebate for those who paid into the system. This President feels that everyone pays taxes when they buy something from the store so everyone qualifies, to a certain degree…

Would also like to add to tinamarie’s post…. from what I was told, the stimulus money will be included in you regular SSI or SSD or regular SS payment therefore all your information is already at the SS office, they will just add it on to your regular amount of your check…and you’ll most likely get it faster if you have Direct Deposit…

Rickey, hi again. I scrolled thru the past history of this site. I found your link posted in your site. I clicked on it, and it brought me to info. on this site. It said that this years check wil not be like last years. It wont be a GENERAL STIMULUS CHECK FOR EVERYONE. That it would be only for SELECTIVE GROUPS. But it doesn’t say WHICH groups those are.
lol…..It also says that 1 TRILLION DOLLARS is to be put out to the Americans for this? LOL…..which averages 3300.00 each for who qualify!
If you notice at the beginning of this site, some people commented on receiving that amount and thought they could pay off credit card amounts.

Yeah, I had to file a standard 1040 tax form last time but the man at the SS office said that this time the money would just be added onto our checks. DID NOT have to file another return. I now have Direct Deposit and will most likely get it a couple of weeks earlier than those waiting on a check in the mail. If you receive SSD (disability) as I do and you want to sign up for Direct Deposit, your bank will fill out all the paper work for you but I would personally take or send it in to the SS office myself.

I have a question regarding the following statement about which people will receive a 2009 stimulus check, “People currently receiving Social Security.” Does this mean that my children who receive a check from SS because I am disabled, will receive a 2009 stimulus check?

Wow! I can’t believe that there are so many angry people. Those who don’t get a check are angry that they don’t, and the those that do are angry because it is only $250. Come on people is it really that important!? We are all struggling these days. I don’t get a check and if I did, it would maybe cover 1 month’s electric, big deal. My mother will receive one and she should! She has worked hard her entire life as did most of the seniors still around. If people these days were as hard-working and appreciative as the seniors, we may not be in a mess as big as this one. If everyone in the country would put there problems in 1 big pile, I’m sure they’d pick up there own and go home.

YES… they should in some form or another. Check with your local SS office, or call the toll-free number…. I have a good friend who is disabled and both his girls got some money (I don’t exactly know how much) but they added it with his payment. He got the top amount because his wife died several years back and he has sole custody of the kids….

Yeah Mary,

It’s just human nature for people to react in the way they do. There’s a gap between those who have and those who have not and they don’t want to see the gap disappear. They never stop to think what it would be like for them to live on the other side, put their feet in our shoes awhile.
It should be us (disabled) who are as mad as hell because those who are complaining don’t realize that they are going to get a HUGH tax break if they don’t make over $250 thousand a year.. and that is an ongoing thing. The $250 payment is a one time only deal. The working folks are going to be saving much more in the long run than our pitiful $250.
But, I’m glad to be getting anything and I’m also glad to see the working persons taxes going down because they are having a hard time also….. we are ALL effected by this economy….and I’m glad our President had the insight to realize it !!

Everyone is affected from the poor to the rich. It doesn’t matter how much one has, it is never enough. I do think that someone disabled or a senior should get the stimulus check, I just don’t think that it is going to boost them very much. I think the stimulus package will work myself, it is just going to take time, as do all things worth while.
I have a disablity but do not receive any kind of benefit for it as I continued to work part time in another field, but was laid off due to the economy. I am just grateful to wake up every morning no matter what the economy is.
After I had my spine put back together and was totally disabled for a short time and it really changed my perspective, on everything. I may not have enough money to pay every bill every month, but I am surrounded by people who love me and that is the most important thing in life to me.

Rosie I am not assuming anything my argument to this day is that anyone who never ever worked should get the same as the ones who do. If they apply for ssi and are approved it is immediate medical. I unfortunately was diagnosed with breast cancer after I was approved for SSD but had to be on SSD for TWO years before the medicae would kick in. I am still to this day paying off thousands of thousands of dollars worth of medical bills. So all you people who think I am hard hearted take a walk in my shoes and thousands of others in my boat. Worked 42 years straight and now and zero in the bank but I get a big 1200 a month out of which comes rent, copayments which ssi has no idea about , electric etc. You try it. No food stamps cause I have been married and tried to live the right kind of life. I am so sick of being politically correct .

It’s really not that hard to figure out. Some say that people on SSI shouldn’t get it because they pay no taxes..some say they should get it because they worked all there life and now they are retired and are only going to get $250….and all of them are debatable points…

Truth is… this stimulus payment is NOT, I repeat NOT a tax rebate. This is a one time payment regardless if you have ever payed into the system, or not. It has nothing to do with last years TAX rebate check… In effect, we are ALL going to pay for this, not just those who are working… Disabled people and people receiving SSI will be paying there share every time they make a purchase at a store and pay sales tax.. A small part of that tax is federal.
The Republicans had a good idea last time but failed to take it far enough, thus, as we all know, it didn’t work… This time around, there are more tax breaks in effect and everyone, regardless of paying income tax, or not, can expect something… To fix the economy for everyone, it’s going to take EVERYONE !!

You are right Ricky, it is going to take everyone and it would be easier if everyone would just let go of some of their anger. It is a tough time for everyone and anger just makes it tougher than need be.

And I have enjoyed reading all of your opinions and thoughts and I have came to this one conclusion… THANK GOD we all live in a country where we can have this kind of debate… makes no difference whether someone is a Democrat or Republican…. we are ALL free people with free thoughts and a right to express them…
None of us are going to agree on every thing, every time but together it seems we have always come out of a bad problem stronger than ever with the rest of the world wondering how we did it. Well, we’re all Americans..that’s how we did it.
The greatness of a society has always been measured on how they treat the least among their society, not the well off. Greed has always destroyed people from within but compassion has built the foundations of many a great society. Every nation in the free world takes care of it’s poorer class… I’m just thankful our country is one of them. Let’s all be glad that we are getting something because there may come a day where there is none to give !!!

This is in response to PORT29617’s post on 2-26-09 @ 5:08 am. It is not just one parties fault that our country is in the situation it is in. I vote for the person I feel is most qualified to do the job and who has the closest values and morals that I hold. Be it Democrat, Republican or Indipendent. You blame the Republican party for the whole mess and believe that Obama is going to save the world. What about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They had Democrats behind the problems there. It was democratic idiology that everyone should have a home if they could afford it or not. Too many people voted for Obama because he lulled them with a promise of change. They did not know what change he meant. They did not care. He spoke so elligantly and they did not challenge what he really stood for. I am afraid for our country. People need to educate themselves on the political realm. They need to listen and find out what things mean and what is really going on. This stimulus that was passed so quickly without real scrutiny is not going to make things better. If you think things are bad now. Just wait. Where do you think the money is going to come from for all the stuff that is a part of that stimulus package? People should watch Fox News Channel where they can get more than one side to the things that are going on. It is not all slanted to one party. You will find out things that are going on out there that we should be concerned about, that you won’t hear about on the major networks. Please people, educate yourselves about what is going on in our world and especially in our own country. Stand up for what you really truely believe. Don’t just think this person is right because I grew up with family that voted for this party or that party. Prayer for the truth, and educating yourself on what people really stand for and what you really stand for and making it count. That is what this country needs!

Rick is right….its NOT just for ppl on social security, n vets….ppl on disability that have NeVer worked a day in their life WILL get it….STOP being so THICK headed…N the last stimulus ppl w/kids got $300 for each kid as well as $300 for each person in the household that worked….

Linda IF you worked 42 yrs I’d say you had ample time to get some insurance coverage in place that would have helped while medicare was preparing to kick in ….YOU seem to dwell on YOUR problems alot…IF you are getting $1200 monthly you are doing damn GOOD sista bc that is MORE than alot of us are getting!!!! N we all have pretty much the same things to pay n we ALL have to eat so YOU are no worse off than the next person….

YES everybody has the right to have diff OPINIONS….BUT when they start attacking ppl like the PRESIDENT bc they are NOT getting MORE money OR they can’t wait for this to get processed N get that check in May…then its a horse of a diff color….its then NOT an opinion…!!!
