$250 stimulus check in 2010 for Social Security Recipients

President Obama has recently announced that there will be a one-time $250 stimulus check in 2010 to recipients of Social Security.  This bonus check is part of of his ongoing effort to stimulate the economy out of recession.  Please note that Congress has yet to approve this bill.

[Edit – This check was supposed to have been paid out in the first quarter of 2010.  Given that the first quarter just ended and there is no check it looks like this issue is dead and there will be no $250 stimulus check in 2010.]

Who is eligible for the $250 stimulus check in 2010?

Anyone who is currently receiving Social Security (SS) payments will be eligible for the $250 check.  There are also some other groups who will receive this check including SSI and disabled veterans.

[update – find out about the new $250 stimulus check in 2010 for SSI recipients]

Will Social Security Payments Get Paid If US Defaults On Its Debt?

When will the $250 checks be paid out?

It is not known at this time when the payments will be made but it is likely that they will be paid in the first quarter of 2010 (ie before the end of March).

Is there any income limit for the $250 payment?

No, it doesn’t matter if you have other income or if you are working or not.  It doesn’t matter how much income you make – you will still get the check.

How much will this cost the government?

According to White house officials, the cost of all the stimulus checks will be $13 billion.  A large amount of money but don’t forget that the stimulus package for 2009 was almost $800 billion.

Why is the government doing this?

The government is giving out this money in order to try to stimulate the economy.  Because of problems in the financial markets and housing markets over the last 2 years, there has been a slowdown in economic activity in America and many job losses.  By putting extra money into the economy it is hoped that the decline of the economy can be slowed down or even reversed.

Will there be a Social Security raise this year?

No, in fact part of the reason the $250 bonus check was created was to make up for the fact that there is no cost of living raise in Social Security payments this year.

Will it be a check or electronic payment?

The $250 should be given to you in the same format you currently receive your regular Social Security payment.  If you get your SS payment by check then the $250 will also be by check.  If you get your SS payment deposited in to your bank account then the $250 will also be deposited into your bank account.

More information on Social Security

Social Security provides the average retiree with a monthly check of about $1,150. The program provides 40 percent of all income received by elderly people in the United States; one in five older married couples and two in five older single people rely on it for at least 90 percent of their income.

For heaven’s sake! I may have been mistaken about the month I received that darn check. It’s over and done with. Been a year ago. I hope no one else has made a mistake in their whole life.
My son called SS yesterday and talked to a representive, and they told him that Congress has not signed off on the Stimulus Check for 2010, and that he might as well forget about it, for it wasn’t coming to us. I told him that if that were the case, then we SHOULD get our COLR.

Im 47 yrs old i Have full blown aids and have been for 10 yrs im on ssdi my meds cost 3000.00 amonth icould use the 250.00 soon thank you pres Obama

Irma, I didn’t mean to offend you, I’m sorry…I was just trying to say that it will be awhile, if at all, when we receive any more money from the government. I too could use it a lot, and wish it were going to be coming, but I am beginning to have my doubts, so I guess I will try to not think about it anymore…then maybe I’ll be surprised! lol

I am very upset about this issue. I am a single mother on disability and feel that this $250.00 check is a slap right in our AMERICAN faces! We need our raise in SS payments each month. Not $250 for the whole year…that averages out to $4.81 a week. PLEASE…what does that buy? A loaf of bread? I am on medicare and my daughter is on medi-cal. Medi-cal gave us a share of cost this year of over $1400.00 because they say I make too much money. What kind of crap is that? I see doctors twice a week, I’m on meds, plus living expensive for my child and myself and they say I make too MUCH money? I guess I needed to have come from across the border to get what is rightfully mine. I AM AN AMERICAN VET for the USN and Carlos and his family never fought a day for this county.

praying that God will intervene in this situation. because he promise to supply our needs and he knows what we need.

why is the congress dragging their feet ? it is not much but the $250 is badly needed by millions of people. it seems when their pay raise comes around, they waste no time in passing that. it is true, $250 doesn’t go very far but, every little bit helps. please congress pass this bill now!

I to wish it would come sooner rather than later. Erica U got yours already!!!! I keep checking but no luck my sister checks too but nothing…I also wish we would have gotten our raise this year…To all those struggeling with paying your heat bills IF YOU HAVENT DONE SO PLEASE CALL YOUR GAS COMPANY AND SEE IF YOU CAN’T GET ON A BUDGET BILLING PLAN. I am on one and my budget for right now is 55 a month. in 6 months they will readust if they need to.. Also see about that for your light bill as well..I can’t do my lights untill march then I will be on the budget for them as well..

my husband and i are both in poor health and pay 20%of our medical and prescription drugs an we live on 1200.00 a month. we are in a rental home and with utitities phone and rent we are always in a big hurt.I hope to God this will all work out but it seems to me we are digging the hole even bigger each day. I have always trusted in God to provide and he always has. he knows where you are.Marcie

I have been on SSI for four years…it has been a nightmare! I can’t afford auto insurance, which I need, my vehicle for medical purposes. I can’t even afford to fix my car. I have no cell phone and no debt because I just go without; I only get $674.00 a month, this cut hurt me so bad. The sick thing, housing authority (a federal funded program) is charging me more than 30% for my apartment, before I was paying 30%, just because they wanted to be able to give out vouchers to drug addicts and sex offenders. My apartment is a prison because I can’t afford to go hardly anywhere. I am now getting sicker, this is a domino effect. I can’t even afford to do volunteer work because the cost of gas! I think it is pretty ignorant to indicate that just because some of us pay for Internet it means that things can be peachy…news people, my Internet cost me $6.79 a month on dialup. It is a necessity because I do online banking; I am disable and I can’t get to the bank all the time. I have no help at all; I am alone, alone, and alone. If you think SSI is going to be peachy keen with this cut and be so careless with your words, then my guess is you are getting help from family members and not reporting it — I wish I had extra help…You would not be so calm about this if you weren’t getting extra money beyond you SSI check…!

i am 57 year old female that worked in this country i had a brain operation in 2005 i am on social security , but i have no dental insurance my teeth hurt i dont have , 200. dollars for private dental iget 874.00 on social security i dont have a car my light bill is 400.00 and i have to pay some of my medicine bills i am tired of the free loaders who have never worked please close our borders, and stop letting all these people come over here and get on welfare , also take all the gang menbers and let the goverment load them all up and go fight in the real world for the united states army no more free rides for them , i need my 250 to got to the dentist or by food lisa seattle wash mr. president please send us our stimlus check i will not vote for obama again 3 more years of this god bless america god bless our people . by by

Don’t be surprised!!!!!! If you file income tax. The “$250.00 will be deducted from any refund due you. This is a fact!!!! We have already done our 2009 taxes. $250.00 deducted right off the top! Thank you Obama., and we thought you was doing something good for the people. THINK AGAIN!!!

i.m glad we.re getting this 250 check it.ll help for any xtras i might need. thanks obama for caring.

As far as I know this has NOT been approved yet. I wish they would hurry up and approve it..it would be nice. But I’m not REALLY counting on this money.

I, like others on here, am on SSI…I get a total of 689.00 a month and my house payment is 56.6% of that at 390.00 a month. Every little bit helps.

my husband and my son lives off of 953.00 amonth and because of child support being taking out of his check we can hardly make it i thing its time for poor people to stand up and let the president live in our shoes for awhile see if he like living poor and disable he is not helping us out at all we should get 500.oo stimulus check

It appears that Mr. Pres believes that the economy has improved so much that we the ppl (the disabled) don’t need a cost of living. Mr. President and your wife too are officially invitied to live in my shoes for one (1) month. You will have to pay all Bills from my SSID, including my medication which is $56.00 per month and monthly Part D Payment is $9.40. Plus my Access which cost $54.00 per month. So just for Health care I pay
Medical expenses 119.40
My Mortage and Taxes & Home Insurance 564.00
phone, electric, gas heat, garbage /sewer &water 154.00
Miscellaneous expenses 108.00

Total ——————————————————-$ 945.40
Now Mr. & Mrs Ombama you have less than $40 per week when these bills are paid. You have a a dog for protection and he eats 88lbs of dog food per month that $44.00, you will need toliet paper, shampoo, soap, cleaning product unless you like to live in filth and germs, toothpaste because these above mentioned items are not food stamp approved so you pay with your money. Cost of these products at the dollar store $25.00 And lets not forget the car a 4 cycl. manual 1 fill up per month to travel to doctors appointments because the nearest doctor that I am allowed to see is over 30 miles away and there is no bus route. Cost of 1 fill up is $39.00 So in essence Mr & Mrs O 44 + 39 + 25 = and additional $108

Will you accept my challenge Mr & Mrs Obama? Give up your fancy living, live on bagels the last week before food stamps, don’t refill medication because that would mean you can’t buy toliet paper?
I doubt that this will even reach your desk. lol 😉
I worked all my life. I put into the system from age 16! Maybe if someone had resued me when I was being viviously abused back then I would have had a chance in life! My challenage is stay alive and hope for the best every day that’s my life’s work right now.
Bummer that you aren’t with the real ppl of America

i havent heard if Congress has passedn this yet.as far as i know they havent. they need to get off their a$$e$ and sign the bill and get it passed.it isnt easy living off of ssi.i would like to see our US Congress live a m,onth off of what we get, they WOULDN’T make it!!!!!!!!!!!! plz President and Congress sign this bill we need our money

I havent heard if Congress has passed this yet are we going to get it 250.00 isnt much but it does help if we do get it when will it come

It seems to me that the majority of those who are here wondering about when the check will come and complaining about how bad life is for you are on disability. I know that there are those who are truly unable to work, BUT….if you say you cannot work, but can spend time on the computer, then I wonder if you couldn’t work at the computer also. I am receiving SS because I worked my whole life and finally got to the age where they are paying me retirement benefits. My benefits are not even $700 a month, so yes, despite having aches and pains, medical problems and a whole bunch of other reasons that some “disabled” use to get more per month than I do, I work to make ends meet. Would I rather stay home and play on the computer? You betcha, but that isn’t being responsible. When all of you who are complaining get that $250 (providing it really comes), how long will you have it? I suspect you will go out and buy things that you normally pass by and in two days begin whining about being broke again. If your hands work, do something to make an extra dollar. Before my Social Security started I was unemployed and looking for work with absolutely no regular income for three months. I survived by doing whatever I could legally and morally do to earn ANYTHING. I never had savings, do not own my own home and live alone taking care of my pets in a rented single wide. I have met many “disabled” people who can outwork me hands down. They work in their yards, go for walks and shop without having to sit down every 5 minutes. These are things that I can no longer do. I hear them talk about how hard it is making their check stretch and I see them wearing new shoes, eating food that came through the drive thru window and buying things that I certainly cannot. It makes me very angry as you can probably tell and angrier still when I find that they get medical help that I don’t qualify for because I am not yet 65 and their check for sufficient whining is more than the one I worked hard to receive. Maybe instead of using all your energy to complain about when your check is going to arrive so you can be wealthier for a minute, you should find a more productive way to make your life better.

To Paula…I think your remarks are very mean and you sound very angry…but I think the anger is truly directed at your inner self. I make quite a bit more than you do on SS because I went to school to better my education, and paid for it myself, working at various jobs so I could continue school…I also get a decent check from the VA on their widows pension, from a husband that worked his but off and was on disability from the Vietnam War…Don’t you dare talk down to those on here whose shoes you have never walked in, nor even tried on…That is BS…Your anger is very unatractive and hurtful to those not as fortunate as some…if you don’t have anything nice to say, then hush….

To Ann,
No, you are wrong about where my anger is directed. It is exactly where I said it is. Good for you that you worked to continue your education and your husband may have earned his disability in the Vietnam War, but I do find a problem with those who get disability because they have such things as chronic fatigue disorder (but you hear them talk about the programs they watch at 3 am)…..maybe a bit of sleep would cure that, but a nice check is really what they were after. Another I know actually works nearly full time under the table and banks her check so that she can purchase a new car every other year. Another gets it because he cannot stand for long periods of time due to the injuries he suffered in a bar fight. I cannot stand for long periods of time due to injuries I received working, but was told that I was employable if I can still sit on a stool and collect money at a self serve gas station. Yes, I am angry. I am angry because these and others I have met don’t wear shoes like mine that are old and falling apart but the best that I have. I am angry because they actually have extra money for gifts for family at holiday times unlike me. I have been at the homes of some who receive their monthly allowance and watched when they continued working past the time that I was physically able to keep up. One particular woman complains that she cannot lift anything heavier than a coffee cup, but she can sure haul 40 pound sacks of potting soil around and swing an axe. As I said, I am sure there are some who truly do need the help and honestly cannot work, but of all the folks I have personally met who have that disability check coming to them, I have not met one that couldn’t find a way to make a dollar if the government didn’t send them money. Truth be told, why should they? They have found the easier way to live. Just wait for the check to come in the mail. Chastise me if you will, I really don’t care because I know that what I am saying is true more than it is not across the board. After all, there are some who do not have the use of their limbs at all and they still find a way to be productive. I do, however, think that they would certainly qualify for disability it is just that they have chosen to be what others have chosen not to.

Now, a final note. If you cannot say something nice yourself, then perhaps you should take your own advice and hush.

Valorie Here Again,Again
We make it sooo easy for the Politicians
when we trow rocks at each other and hide behind trees We’re all in the same
simliar postion.
But when it come to Real Solutions,We seem to fade as a vapor.
I always believed if you don’t help solve the problem.Move out of the way
and never become the problem.
Can you help solve the problem? Then Help! You have the floor…
I don’t think President Obama is any
better than any other President we’ve
had,but he sure isn’t any worse.
I Congress can make $3500 per week or
$14,000 per month plus benefits.
Don’t we as past working citizens deserve a lot better?
I you want to Realy Complain go to:

I am on SSI…here is my story. I got married the day after I turned 18. At that time, my hubby and I made a plan…have 2 kids early in our marriage and when the youngest went to school full time I would go to work full time..in the meantime, I would work through a temp service from time to time to make ends meet. Sounds like a solid plan that should work, doesn’t it? Well, when I was pregnant with the 2nd one I started being weak and tired…I excused it away..”I’m pregnant and running after a 3 year old”. So I kept on with the plan…I had the 2nd and weakness and tiredness continued..I STILL excused it away “I’ve got a newborn and chasing after a 4 year old” BUT when I started falling down flights of stairs.. I went to doc… I was diagnosied with a form of muscular dystorphy. So I fought to get disablility….I hadn’t worked enough to draw regular so I was put onto SSI….I get a total of 689.00 a month. with a house payment of 390.00…now IF you want to do the math …that is 56.6% of my income…I do NOT wear new shoes either do my children…by the way, my oldest kid has the SAME illness I do…diagnoised at age 18.
So sometimes, life gets you when your young and haven’t had time to work in the workforce.
I DO work in my yard and my housework is all done by ME. It takes me 2-3 times longer than a “healthy” person but I do it. I was taught to work for everything…BUT my body and health DID NOT learn this lesson. IF I was given the choice to be healthy and work my butt off every day OR the life I HAVE to life…..I would chose…,. WORK!!!! I do not sit on the computer ALL the time either.
But at the same time,,I too have seen people that would be able to work a regular job BUT have chosen to take the “easy” way out. BUT PLEASE, do NOT generalize all SSI folks to that…The most of us are TRULY unable to work….I know myself, I had to fight the system until I went in front of a JUDGE before I was approved…that took 18 months.
If they approve this 250.00 I will use it to help pay my property taxes. But, also keep in mind, I’m NOT whining. I’m on here to try to explain how hard it is to “live in my shoes” Something our congressman and President probably couldn’t do.

Thank You all for “Listening”

i dont understnd how someone could get their 250 stimulus check already when the bill hasn’t even passed yet in congress….if there was a stimulus check in 2010 , plus if it was passed, this is when they are saying they would come out…..The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account. But congress yet hasn’t passed it yet…

I have 3 children that gets 35 each social security off their father and I wanted to know are they elgible for the $250 as well?

well seen that he hasnt said anything since and probably thinks we all forgot i think we should all bind together and lets start calling our local news channels get them involved show them these boards and what that money means to us all Maybe it will Re-open obamas eyes and we will hear from him im gonna do it who else will??????/

What I dislike about living on disablity is your punished for working. For example I get $695 in benefits. I make $100 in self employment income. If I were to make $145 in income I would lose my SSI.
If I want to make $400 a month my income would be $1195 that would great if everything would stay the same. Here is what would change if I made that much:
Medicare costs – $110
Medicare prescriptions – $38
Lose food stamps – $200
Lose SSI – $50
Meciad spin down – $100
I would have $498 in additional expsenses so it really does not benefit me much to work more than very part time.
If they could some how let us keep all our benefits up to the $950 per month we could make then we could try to work more. We would not be as desperate.
What I think needs to happen is a change in the rules. More affordable housing and at least a 3% raise in COLA every year no matter what. Maybe we could just have a flat raise every year therefore no matter what we would get a raise. If there were more work from home jobs or if the government can provide us jobs than that would help as well. I am going to college right now so I get some extra help but maybe the government can provide incentatives for people to go back to school. I plan on teaching online courses; you can work from home.
Bottom line is there needs to be more resources and less rules. The $250 is just a band aid. It would be nice to get that extra money but there needs to be more reform in the system.

well here it is the end of january , and we still haven’t heard if the stimulus bill was passed by the congress and the senate. i think it is a shame how poor and disabled people are being strung along. please remember who not to vote for if this bill does not pass. hopefully, it will but it is taking an awful long time. please mr. president, congress and senate pass this bill so we can use our $250 to buy groceries, medicine, and other necessities. thank you.

CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME MR. PRESIDENT..WE ARE THE TIRED ,POOR HUDDLED MASSES, RIGHT HERE IN THE USA. WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT BALING OUT THESE SUPER COMPANIES, AND BANKS ? WHAT PART OF THE PIE ARE THEY GETTING ? OUR CONGRESS AND LEGISLATURE VOTE IN THEIR OWN RAISES AND PAY LITTLE TO NO TAXES AT ALL…I SAY WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE AND START WITH THE POOR PEOPLE TO RUN OUR COUNTRY…WE KNOW HOW IT IS TO BE WITH OUT ..SOME OF US ARE SO POOR WE CAN’T EVEN BE TOUCHED BY THIS RECESSION WE ARE IN.
FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO SAY THERE IS NO INFLATION THIS YEAR, SO WE DON’T GET A RAISE IN OUR S.S. IS PURE LIES.. MAYBE YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY LIVING ON 654.00 A MONTH MR. PRESIDENT
IT WAS NOT THE PEOPLE OF THE USA THAT TOOK US INTO RECESSION AND POVERTY ..IT WAS OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS WHO DID THIS . WHEN WE HAD AN OVER ABUNDANCE OF SOCIAL SECURITY FUNDS OUR STATE GOVERNMENT TOOK THE MONIES AND WROTE I.O.U.S NOW THEY DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO PUT BACK ….SO OOPS THEY STILL GET THEIR RETIREMENT …WE DON’T… HOW LONG WITH THIS ADMINISTRATION ,BEFORE WE BECOME A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY ? WHERE IS THE SMALLER GOVERNMENT WE WERE PROMISED ? 37 CZARS, ALL PAID , SEVERAL HOUSE HOLD WORKERS FOR THE FIRST LADY, AND ALL ARE PAID AND WILL GET GREAT RETIREMENT…BUT WHY ARE THEY NEEDED ? DOESN’T HE HAVE A CABINET OF PEOPLE TO WORK FOR HIM ? JUST MORE TAX PAYERS MONEY AT WORK FOR NOTHING ….SO NOW GOVERNMENT OWNS BANKS , AUTO INDUSTRIES ,AND TRYING TO CONTROL HEALTH CARE ….GOD BLESS AMERICA PLEASE …

If this a reference to ssi benefits…674.00 for having not worked enough to base payments on …well…its interesting that people forget that someone has to work to pay into that program. Social security retirement payments are based on your, thats right, YOUR earnings. Not the social security taxes you paid, which means what you get is a better then fair reflection of what you contributed to the program in the first place. Not everything is equally and sometimes fairly spread out. On the other hand neither is the burden or responsibility from those who take or receive from these benefits. The other thing I find funny is that we have no money in the government but it manages to produce these “stimulus” payments to people who don’t appreciate that they get it for doing nothing. Not everyone but the ones who do sure like to stick out like a sore thumb and make themselves known

I dont understand some of this can someone explain about the freezzing for next year and what it means thanks

I get $676 per month on SSI. If I had gotten Social Security I would have gotten $950 per month. I had paid into the Social Security system for more than 20 years before being assulted and being forced into disability. I now get very severe siezures and have had to be put on advanced life support because of the assult. I have been forced to surrender my drivers license and can no longer even remember to take medications some days. My Rent is $500 per month. My phone is about $120 per month (dial up included) and my electricity is always over $100. I am like a ship sinking fast in bills. I would be happy to recieve one lump sum of cash, only what I paid into the system. I want no more than what is mine! The government has taken our money and invested it in worthless stock. They bail out large banks and now GM stands for government motors. I have earned what I am getting and will not accept those that think I am getting a free ride. 20 years of over $100 per week paid in. You do the math. I am in serious trouble and the government just don’t seem to get it. Wake up America!

Seeing the decision about the 2010 Stimulus Check is not approved and now the decision is in the hands of congress. I feel the Stimulus Check will not be approved knowing Congress has their hands in the mix. Its to bad Americans are suffering from pathetic and incompetent political leadership. Too bad these politicians can not walk a mile in our shoes being disabled and having to live off such a small check and try to make ends meet and survive. Such a shame !!

This is for all those people who think the SSD or SSI and the stimulus checks are free money. People wake and smell the coffee, for those of us who disabled and cannot work, we work very hard at making from month to month. I am very sure that we the disabled would love to wake up and go to work, but unfortunatley we can not. And as far has the money being free, we most of us have paid into the Social Security System, and we are entitled to the money, nothing is free in life except for the stupid remarks people make when they have no idea what they are talking about.

I agree with you, Tom, 100%. Not a person on here who is drawing Social Security has not worked and paid into it. If you didn’t work, you would not qualify for Social Security. So the money we draw is money owed us….for our retirement. Now for disability, I don’t know how that works…but I know there are bad apples in every barrel, as I’m certain there are on disability…but I’m convinced that most on disability are not fakes, or frauds…so for those who are angry at those who recieve money and stay home…just be thankful that God chose for you to be born in the greatest country in the world…and it still is in my opinion, because you could have been born in Haiti or Etheopia, or North Korea…now wouldn’t that be relaxing!

I agree with you Marcie about it not being passed. Maybe it’s because more banks need to be bailed out. And all the CEO’s who contribute to the Political Party need more money for vacations or a new house. While the rest of the people (like ourselves)need to just to survive and make ends meet. But we are the ones who worked all our life’s, paid our bills and tried to do things the right way. Lets hear it for the pathetic loser’s in Washington, our nations leaders as they say. They forget one important fact, politicians come and go while the people have to pick up the pieces and carry on with their life’s after the mess the politicians have left us. And I won’t even mention Bush and those mysterious WMD’s that were never found.

First of all JAY…. let me tell you one thing…..as for the amount of money a person gets on social security or disability, yes, is based on their earnings….I had worked since I was 15yrs old, plus finished school….I worked for over 30 yrs and then unfortunately became disabled..by no fault of my own….now I learn to live on just under $800 a month……I worked hard for minimum wage all of those years…YES, thre are those of us who are not afraid of working for minimum wage, at least it was a job, and better then having no job at all !! Thus, working for measly wages also affects what we have to live on now….so listen PAL….don’t get on a high horse and make it sound as though just because someone is speaking their mind on financial difficulties, and who knows them first hand, that it is someone who should just sit back quietly and suffer, because they caused their own problems….don’t make it sound as thought the person doesn’t have a right to complain or be worried, as though they are sitting back taking a free handout, because it is far from that !! The retired and disabled are not treated fairly whether you want to see the truth in it or not ! The government will find any way they can to screw us that they can.
SO go sit on your thumb and spin pal….you are the one who should keep quiet, don’t judge until you have had to walk in that person’s shoes !!

Oh Come On Jay:

You are the one that said its free money for us. Like we(disabled( get so much money we don’t what to do with it. I don’t wish misfortune on anyone, but if you go through what we do just in one day. Your eyes just might opened a little wider. Living and surviving on a very small limited budget in times like this isn’t a walk in the park.
Why would you even consider its free money anyway ? For your information it’s not free, it’s earned income for the unfortunate. We have paid into the program, just like everyone else does with a weekly pay check, check out your FICA earnings pal. And you have a nice day living in your judgmental world looking down on us too pal !

Sure hope we do get a stimulis check in 2010 No raise in our SSI checks because they say the cost of living has not gone up Yeh sure gas is almost 3.00 a galllon here not to mention rents are out of site How do they expect us older folks to live We worked hard all our lives Give us a break now Please

there was no mention of the $ 250 stimulus payment in the president’s speech the other night. i hope that doesn’t mean that it is a dead issue ? the cost of living on a fixed income has gone skyhigh!!!!!! $ 1.79 for just a quart of milk is outragerous!!!!! i hope on behalf of all of us on ssi and social security, that this bill is passed soon!!!!!!

Hi Caryn:

Living in New York State is no picnic either, over priced and over taxed. A politicians playground for the Politically connected and their gofers. Everything is sky high here, &2.19 for a gallon of milk, $2.89 for gas (reg.) &7.00 for a pack of cigarettes. And they the cost of living didn’t go up, how blind can these fools be.
I just wanna through this into the mix, trying to get a open minded opinion. How do we know for sure our votes do count. What proof can the politicians give us to clarify that question? I have always wondered about that ever since they (politicians) started pushing the issue of “your vote does count”. How do we know the person we vote for is actually getting that vote too? Just something to think about, after the 2000 election with Bush/Gore I always wondered about my vote. Maybe next election, I’ll put my vote up on Ebay, and see how bids the highest……..lol

I have notfied my congress person a couple times. One about health care and the other time about this issue. I even forwarded the link of this forum so he could see how much it is needed.
Alot of people in government are so out of touch with how poor and the average person lives they do not understand our suffering. I wish there was a recquirement for all elected officals to live on minium wage for one year before they are a candiate. If they can do it sucessfully than when they can not be considered an electable candiate.

I think if the government would start thinking of the citizens first and put other countries second we would not have to want for anything. How many illegals have come to this country just to have children at alarming rates. and just what does it cost to have 1-child today. what is this costing our country, yet we have citizens who both work and can’t afford but 1-child. they don’t qualify for free doctor bills they have to both work to pay for insurance. are we robbing social security to pay for their doctor bills? think about it when there’s this money going out at this magnitude it has to come from somewhere. I’m 53-years old my husband is totally disabled and I have no-insurance. I haven’t been to a doctor in years. My last physical was 15-years ago in which I had to pay the total bill. Do you think this is fair for our citizens not to be able to doctor but illegals have free doctors and once a child is born over here they are citizens and qualify for all medical bills paid untill they are 21-years old and also all social service programs, food stamps, housing, WIC, heating and cooling assistance. yet we can’t get a raise in social security benefits. I too say wake up americans and throw the rich rulers out of office.

Only in American can foreigners have the freebie’s, if they start a business they get freebie’s.Free insurance, Social Security, Welfare, Food Stamps, what the hell lets give it all away. Not the Americans who build this country with hard work, blood sweat and tears only to have it ripped out from underneath us by these politicians who are in office. Next time election season comes, we the people should have to the right inspect the politicians work record, and work performance records as well. It is time to put our foot down and demand what we deserve!
My theory is, IF YOU CAN”T SPEAK THE LANGUAGE< GET OUT ! It may sound cold hearten, but we need to take care of ourselves not others who feed off all the freebie's. They call this justice, I call it robbery of the Americans rights to take care of themselves first. If you take care of yourself, no one else will, that a proven fact if you live in New York State, just ask Patterson. That if you can sit through all of his excuses and lie's, but he is just like any other twisted tongue politician full of hot air….lol. Some may agree and may not, personally I don't care, hopefully with in the next year, NYS will be an over taxed waste land within 20 years at this rate, and Social Security will extinct. NYS may be the next Walmart Super Store for the politically connected, membership only……..LOL.
