$250 stimulus check for SSI Recipients In 2010

Update –Will there be a stimulus check in 2010?]

When will the $250 checks be paid out?

It is not known at this time when the payments will be made but it is likely that they will be paid in the first quarter of 2010 (ie before the end of March).

Is there any income limit for the $250 payment?

No, it doesn’t matter if you have other income or if you are working or not.  It doesn’t matter how much income you make – you will still get the check.

How much will this cost the government?

According to White house officials, the cost of all the stimulus checks will be $13 billion.  A large amount of money but don’t forget that the stimulus package for 2009 was almost $800 billion.

Why is the government doing this?

The government is giving out this money in order to try to stimulate the economy.  Because of problems in the financial markets and housing markets over the last 2 years, there has been a slowdown in economic activity in America and many job losses.  By putting extra money into the economy it is hoped that the decline of the economy can be slowed down or even reversed.

Will it be a check or electronic payment?

The $250 should be given to you in the same format you currently receive your regular Social Security payment.  If you get your SS payment by check then the $250 will also be by check.  If you get your SS payment deposited in to your bank account then the $250 will also be deposited into your bank account.

When will congress vote about the $250 stimulus check for us seniors and disabled people ? What is taking them so long ,or have they voted on it already ? We need some answers as we all need the money badly.Does anyone know these answers ? Please tell us,but please, only actual facts.

i feel like every body on ssi and ssd and those that have worked and paid in money should get help. after all we worked for it. now is time for us to get back what we put in. we need help too!!!

I SURE WISH THE GOVERNMENT WOULD LET US KNOW NOW ABOUT THE 250.00 STIMULUS CHECKS, I AM RAISING MY 13 YEAR GRANDCHILD ON ONLY 953.00 PER MOUNTH, AND BY THE TIME I PAY RENT AND UTILITIES AND BUY HOUSEHOLD ITEMS,THERE IS NOTHING LEFT FOR ANYTHING ELSE! I REALLY STRUGGLE AND JUGGLE TO PAY EVERYTHING! SOMEONE LET US KNOW SOMETHING…LIKE SOON,PLEASE.

Jay Reber, where did you see that someone already received their stimulus check ? I haven’t seen anything like that anywhere at all.I don’t even know whether Congress has voted for that yet,or not. If someone already received theirs.like you say, maybe it’s already in progress, and that would be sooooo wonderful.!! Let’s all pray for that.!! I hope we hear something good about that real soon.We need good news.!!

Im Disabled also I was looking at the post on here. mind you we all need money. I just think its so sad we have to be so dependent on the goverment. its not a hand out like some people think. im on ssd worked for every damn thing I get they just dont know how to spend our money wisely or this country wouldent be in this shape it is . where we have to ask questons and feel like bums ……..

People are saying they got a check already and someone says they know someone, or someone says they received a letter telling them when to expect it. ALL LIES, call Social Security and they will even tell you it has not been passed yet. So people don’t go getting your hopes up, there is chances you won’t get one this year.

Sally Lou,please do not be telling us such negative things as we do not need that.We need hope.We are all desperate.!! Please be more positive and help us to be able to hang in there. Thank you.

What id like to know if any one is really listening to us out there, we are begging and pleading that we really need this extra because the government took away our raises ,How do they expect us to live on what we do? Its very hard especially when you have a family .Lets see them live on what we do for one month ..

We on ss fixed income,
when we worked and paid in to ss we had to pay a % of earned wages if we made more we paid more.
now new ss recieptants are having to pay 110 $ a mo for medicare thats 1336$a 2010 year, the past schedule was 96 $ a mo 2009 for a total of 1152 a year.
yet we got no raise this year and i ask why
I was told the cost of living did not go up this year… WHAT A JOKE THAT IS How much dose a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk or a gal of gas cost this year compared to last year and how about the utilies
WOW what an increase there..
and” We the people” can do nothing about it
just pray at least they havent taken that away yet .. as long as we dont offend anyone by doing so
God Bless us all and just keep praying

As if poor folks care about the financial and housing markets. What a joke.$250.00 will pay the deliquent utility bills and stimulate the closest grocery store.Big deal

What a negative person you are, Uncahal. If you don’t want the $250.00 I would gladly except it from you. It will pay for my gas and electric bills and give me extra money to buy my first pair of new jeans in over 6 years. So, Yes it is a Big Deal to some of us, especially me.

I fee; that if one should get a increase than everyone else should get a increase. People that
are disabled need that yearly increase just like someone that is on active duty.. Disabled people have to pay the same prices just like active duty people do. 250.00 one time payment doesnt
go anywhere may buy a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk or pay part of a utility bill. But one time
payment doesnt not go all year long like a yearly increase is there every month. So please hurry and get the 250.00 to the people that actually need the money and are going to spend it wisely. Please tell me the truth on when the 250.00 is going to be sent out now or a year from now. Thank you, concern person

Jay Reber, thank you for your very kind response to my message on this site.I agree completely with you.I think Jesus will help us if we are just patient and if we keep praying to him.Thank you.I would call you if I could, but I can’t afford long distance.I am very low income, but God bless you for your kindness and for caring, and yes,I am a Christian.A very strong one and I pray daily.God bless you always,You sound like a very nice and Kind person.I believe strongly that we will be receiving Our $250 stimulus check and we will also be continuing to receive our Cola money in the future. You wait and see.God is awesome and he will help us all.!!

There needs to be at least a 3% increase in COLA every year no matter what! That would be $19.35 a month for me but boy would that help. Granted the $250 would be $20 a month but I think it is easier to utlize the money on a month to month basis. If I have $250 at once I can’t keep it very long because I can’t have more than $1,000 in my checking account for my SSI. Not that I have that much for too long. When my college loan money hits my bank I have over $1,000 so I have to transfer it to savings. I can’t have more than $1,000 in savings either so it would be better to have the COLA month to month.
If they are giving out the $250 I will gladly take it but I will use it up much quicker.

After weighing 300 pounds for many years and now down to 200lbs I could really use some smaller clothes. If it happens it will be very nice to those who really need something they could not otherwise purchase. God bless all of us. If it doesn’t happen there are plenty of orginizations to fall back on.

I think this is an insult to the veterans and disabled. Here the government bailed out the high and mighty’s so they could get bonuses again and here we are losing what we have. On our SSD and pensions. It makes me so mad to see some of these kids that are getting SSD or SSI screaming they can’t read or write and yet they have been in jobs and work under the table. Cutting wood hauling rocks, why doesn’t the government make them go to school and learn. I have seen some of them read and there is not a thing wrong with them just a good lawyer. Or they claim to be a full time alcoholic and get SSD. The VA is stating they have overpaid me because I got SSD like they told me to and kept them informed the whole time and sent in all the paper work ,over the last 2 years. Why tell you to do one thing if they are going to take away from another. They already dropped my Service Connection over an annonimous phone call without an investigation.I was supposed to be mowing 72 yards a week with CHF,COPD,ASTHMA,FIBROMYALGIA,CARDIOMYOPATHY,OSTEOPOROSIS,just to name a few. Where is the reasoning??

My Doctor told me I needed to try and be as stress free as possible how can you do it when your husband has had 2 heart attacks and they tell you you make 54.00 to much to get him a medical card. We make to much for food stamps and yet we don’t make enough to pay bills and buy very many groceries. I can go the the VA for my treatment. We just take it one day at a time and listen to all the CNN stories and BS at times. No one really knows what is happening. They are stalling hoping we will all go away or they can just stamp our accounts DECEASED!!

No one has received a stimulous check in 2010. They are probably confused with the 2009 payment last March.

Those that work and pay taxes are getting their own stimulous thru tax deductions. It’s those who are drawing social security, veterans benefits and (I believe) railroad retires that should be getting another check in March 2010 because we did not get an increase in the cost of living.

It sounds to me that the working people, altho they are getting their stimulous thru tax deductions, are the only ones who are begruding those of us who no longer work. Even those on unemployment got several extensions on their checks.

Well, excuse me folks. I worked for 42 years. I figure I paid my dues. You’re getting your stimulous so why begrudge those of us who aren’t?

Although it would be nice to get $250 stimulus on the first of every month, the government can’t afford it. There are 53 million people on social security and ssi. I do wish that they would hurry up with this stimulus though, I don’t understand what’s taking so long.

it’s hard nowdays for everybody! BUT, try living on 674.00 a month, bills and all, but for 2 people. and no help! now thats hard. believe me, you’ll work your way around the best you can, you can do all you can, thats it, either you make it or you don’t cause nobody out there cares. if they did, people would know where to go to get help, the moto of this is,
SURVIVAL! god bless each and everyone who is reading this! and may the lord fill your hearts desire!

I don’t understand why we can’t at least be paid minium wage. If someone isn’t able to work they should get $7.25 x40 = 1160.If someone is able to work they should get $7.25 x 30= 870. This seems a little reasonable to me. Also they should not take away benefits for working. The government should take into consideration what it costs for one person to live in each state. In my state it is about $1,000 if someone lives in a state where it is higher like New York they should get $2,000 or so a month.
If we weren’t so behind everyone else I don’t think this would be a such a big issue. I was hoping to get over $700 this year. I get $695 per month. I worked hard since 15 sometimes 2 jobs yet because they were low paying and prices have changed it should be based upon present wages not 10- 15 years a go! Prices will always go up;not down. Sure that big screen tv may cost only half of what costs 3 years a go but actual living expenses always go up.

wanda,
Can’t you get some more help if you have more than one person to support? If it is a child I know you can get some sort of cash benefits as well.I would contact your case worker. This just seems unreasonable to me that you only have $674 to support 2 people.

Social security is based on the last 10 years we worked and the wage we made. As of a year or so ago, the minimum wage was $5.15 so our social security is based on that. If we settle for low paying jobs, we are paid accordingly. I was a bartender/bar manager for 34 years. I claimed my tips as most waitresses/bartenders refuse to do. They are afraid they may have to pay a bit of tax on it but in the long run they are far better off. It naturally increases your income allowing you to better qualify for a car, home, credit cards and more in unemployment benefits (if that time should ever come). It also increases the amount you will get from social security. More money=larger checks.

Checks are also based on how many years it’s estimated you will be drawing social security. Younger people get less because they will live longer and naturally receive more payments. Our payments have to set up so that we do not completely run social security in the hole.

What bothers me with social security is that some are allowed to make an exuberant amount of money working but still draw social security, but still, you can not punish some of being successful and go without what they worked for simply because we happen to not be as successful. Then you are heading for discrimination and punishing those that did do well in life.

I thought we got it last year in March but after doing some checking, I believe now it was mid May.

If you’re on SSI, there is some help out there. Don’t pay market rent, try to get on housing. My rent is $585 a month but I only pay $118.00 plus my utilities. Also, food banks help. I recently not only got food from a food bank, but they gave me a brand new jacket, make-up, and other miscellaneous (like shampoo, conditioner, etc). I know its not much but it helps out. Qwest offers assistance with your phone if your disabled. There is a program called LIHEAP that helps you with your utilities. Check if it’s available in your state, or if they have something similar. I hope we all get that stimulus soon. It’s really hard surviving on low income. God Bless all of you.

i have 2 lil girls and their 4 & 2,they draw social security ($496 a month for both)through their father.me and him are not together and i cant keep a job very long because i dont have much help with babysitters and i dont feel safe just letting anyone watch my children.i do get foodstamps and wic for them but that doesnt last all month.in the middle of the month is the worst time for us,i think they should come up with a plan to help us and give us a lil extra cash then(if they can).i mean how many times do you hear people saying how rough the end of the month was because their money doesnt last long?heck,i would be happy if they would give me more foodstamps or something around the middle of the month.i get $596 a month for food and i know it might sound like alot but the cost of food isn’t like it used to be.i shop at the cheapest places for food and still dont have enough.i think that if they are going to give out extra cash, they should investigate everyones benifeits and make sure their the people that need it!

I raised 4 kids alone without even benefit of child support. I also worked for 42 years. You do what you have to for your kids which includes putting them in daycare if you can not find reliable babysitters. Million of women have a job and have children and altho it can be a little tough at times, we do what we have to do.
Don’t hire kids to take care of kids. Get a reliable middle aged woman and have a backup plan in place.

Selena…….Have you read the previous posts? Congress already voted on this weeks ago. It needs to go thru other committes for their approval, as well.

Carolo: no I didn’t know that, so congress did approve it?now when will we know 4sure when we’ll get the payment?if u find out something could u let me know? Thanks!

i dont want to put my daughters in daycare around here where i live, its so hard to trust these people,if you only knew!& i dont know if you have girls or not but its alot harder to trust people with your baby girls!no one can depend on others to do the job right,im just waiting until my youngest goes to school and that will help me out.

yeah, i got my stimulus last year from social security and the year b4 from the irs…im on ssi and since it seems there will be another stimulus check its just a matter of when and where im happy…
lol

In doing by brother-in-law’s ’09 taxes online via TurboTax, I neglected to include his $250 stimulus check. His returns were rejected, indicating that IRS records showed the stimulus payment, and I did not reflect on his return.

When I confirmed receipt, and corrected his return, his resulting Federal refund amount was reduced by the full $250!!! To me, this means that his stimulus check was really just a short term loan.

I have chosen not to re-submit his returns ’til I get a clarification.
Did I miss something?

Thank you,
Jess

thats great orlin, but have you heard anything about the $250 stimulus check we are supposed to be getting?? i havent seen any new updates

so Oly are we getting it this year? or is it a fly by night deal? i surely could use that $250, as well as many others.May God Bless ya’ll and God Bless AMERICA!!!!

i dont know but there has been talks of us getting it in the first quarter by march and march will be here soon so its a up in the air thing would be nice everyone could use the extra . So keeping my fingers crossed we get it soon

Jess, as Orlin said, there was a $400 tax credit on the 2009 return. When you originally filed your return, that credit was included in your refund. Since your husband received the $250 stimulus, it was deducted from the $400 credit. I know this because my husband also received the check and that’s the way it worked out. If you look at your return, you will see that you received the total $400 tax credit (if you work) for yourself if you did not receive a stimulus. Hope this helps!

Trish –

Thank you for pointing out that oversight on my brother-in-law’s 2009 return. I feel better now, have corrected and submitted to IRS.

Jess
