$250 Stimulus Check In 2009 For Retirees, SSI and Disabled Vets

The 2009 stimulus package signed by president Obama contains quite a few financial stimulus for many different parts of the population.  Infrastructure spending, tax cuts make up most of the bill but one of the key aspects to the package is a special cash payment.  This won’t be like the general stimulus check of last year but will be given to select groups.

Alisha,
I’m sorry to hear about what’s happened to you. As for the measly foodstamps,if I were you I’d be eatting alot of bologna sandwiches. I would also check and find out where your local food pantries are and be there when they are open. And if you haven’t already done so you can get help with your heating bills each winter through a program called LIHEAP. They give the money directly to your energy provider and you usually get at least a couple months of no bill to pay depending on how conservative you are with the lights and heat in your home.

Hi Rosey,

Yeah due to my husbands income my circuit breaker check is either $35 or $70 but still it helps.

Alisha I’d buy cheap stuff with those foodstamps like bread, eggs, macaroni and cheese, bologna. Look for “managers special” deals at Kroger. Those are orange stickers right on the product. Sometimes they have quite a good markdown. Some of the stuff may need cooked up soon but you could portion it up and freeze it. Just some friendly ideas for you. I know it sucks having to make money and foodstamps stretch so far. It gives me a headache trying to make ends meet too. Hang in there sweetie. : )

Thank you Alisha I too was a victim by the fist and work boots of my husband. After being in the hospital for a week with brain damage, seizures ,loss of neck and arm movement. It took me six months to return to work. Only to find I couldn’t remember which customer I had waited on.
I suffer petite mall seizures, found that I could no longer lift over 5 lbs.
The headaches never let up. I was put on ssi and told unless the docters can find a surgery to remove the leision on my left temprol lobe work is not in my future. It’s been 16 years I’m a surviver and so is my daughter,I was pregnant at the time .It’s not nice for people to jump to conclusions about those who receive any help. Should we get this 250.00
there well be no shame. Any abuser who recieves such should send the money back. It is they who do not deserve the money .

i am 28 yrs old and unable to work due to mental issuses and i am far from a drug addict and far from an alcoholic i have never done drugs and dont plan to start. i recieve ssi payment big freakin deal but do you know what i spend it on? bills, food and my kids i am lucky if i buy myself something and this 250 will help i too need new glasses and not eligible till october what good is that doing me now? so to put it nicely no not everyone recieving ssi payments are alcoholics and drug addicts.

Hey Janet don’t get so mad about it. They don’t just hand S.S.I. checks out to everyone who asks for them. We have to have a doctors approval for it and go through an evaluation every so often. And furthermore,my husband DOES work so he DOES pay taxes. He is allowed to make so much money per month and if he goes over that amount they DO take some away from my S.S.I. check. Hope that makes ya feel better.

does anyone know for sure that the $250 stimulus check,
is supposed to be deposited in our ssi direct account,
with our regular ssi check? or be mailed seperate like our circuit breaker check was!?
just wondering if anyone knows!!

This is a terrible site. All I read here are people insulting each other. And the spelling………………..Yikes! Terrible!

MG you will get it the same way you would get your SSI. Whether that be by mail or direct deposit and it will be seperate from your SSI payment.

All you greedy people think that the government owes you something…They owe you NOTHING….You are all greedy jerks thinking that they owe you. You are bunch of cry babies…Get a job & stop thinking everybody owes you something….

this is to Karla i live in the state of nc and no we dont get nothing free here like you said i dont no where u get ur info from but i tell you this i have a son that is handley cap and im here to tell you they pay him nothing not one dime they say cause my husband makes to much money but hey i dotn ask for nothing and we dont get nothing free here what ppl get here they work for it but just to let you no i dont no where ppl say we get this and that free well come here and live and u will see that ur state looks alot better that our’s does i can telll you that my mother is disable trust me it took her 6 years to get help so tell me doe sthat sound free no it dont not to me

What ever happened to the “do what you gotta do” mind set? For most of my life i have worked at least 40 hours a week…..Currently 45-47 hours, I have one full day a week off. I am looking for a part-time, on-line job to suppliment what i already earn. I am not a frivolous spender, no big credit card debt, no obscenely large mortgage (i rent), no big fancy car loan but i still just squeak by. I shop at goodwill and yardsales, drive past the fast food places and do what i can to save money. It is nobody’s responsibility to support me in any way. I am not mad that i won’t get the stimulus nor am i mad that some do. (It would be nice to get some free money but i don’t expect it). Did i mention i am uninsured? I think there is a job out there for most anyone that really wants it. I work in a pain clinic and rehab and see 100 s of people come in wanting disability for a “bad back”. What i don’t understand is if you have a bad back don’t your hands still work? What about jobs that you use your hands and remain comfortably reclined and can still take your medicare paid narcotics (unless you’re selling them). There are tons of online jobs ……….try odesk.com or virtualassistant.com. Stop waiting for a hand out and become proactive. As for moms who need to stay home with a handicapped child…….It’s great that you want to be home with your child but keep in mind that there are day programs for handicapped children and state programs that will pay daycare expenses. I reached adulthood with the frame of mind that if there is a will there is a way!!!!! Nothing comes easy……………so everybody “quitcherbitchin”, take care of YOURSELF, and have a great life no matter what! (oh and keep in mind this recession could last years!)

Coffee + Muffy: Re: Contacting SSI.

It can be challenging even for a college educated person to find the contact info for ssi as it is often buried or in many phone books listed where you least expect. Worst of all I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico one block from the ss office and the usual lone woman at the window has always had a very snotty, arrogant, condescending attitude. When I first moved here her first comment demanded: “Why did you come here?!!” …as if I were a parasite when in fact I am bringing Federal funds into the local corrupt community economy. Security guard is a few feet from her so one must remain calm and abused.

I agree with you TOTALLY Carla, I’m also in Alabama and it sucks. Govenor Riley has done NOTHING to improve quality of life for citizens, it’s appalling and the lack of help a disabled person can get. Turning down money to help Alabamians?? ABSURD! He doesn’t support legalized gambling so we could have a lottery yet he accepted contibutions for the American Indian casinos. That money would have helped Alabama tremendously, schools, social services. Alabama has suffered because of his ignorance and will continue to do so. This newest fiasco ..taxing “legal” (as it is called now) gambling won’t work, American Indians are federally exempt from taxes, yet they are wasting valuble time and money trying to pass this insane bill. If he wants to collect taxes from gambling, make it legal state wide, do what’s best for Alabama!!!

I have worked since 8yrs of age, now 53. I have had many jobs, but a serious illness has left me unable to work. I feel the State needs to address the Healthcare services. I recentlygot raise of 50-=60.00 monthly on my SSD. I am not complaining, but because some are receiving the 30.00 over limit allowed, alot of people have to pay the 96.40 for Medicare Ins. & they deduct that amount from the monthly income, so the amount of copayment goes up for perscriptions, so how does this raise help anyone, when the State gives, then taketh away? I don’t get it. Does anyone else?
thanks

I am a military veteran receiving a military pension, get a 10% check from va-will i receive a check or do I have to be 100% disabled-Thanks

I heard that SSI people automatically recieve the stimulas check. if anyone has direct deposit those people will recieved their check may 9th. That is what i heard, and people that dont have direct deposit will receive a check in the mail; they will be mailed by going with the last 2 numbers of your social security number, that should tell u when u will recieve your stimulas check/ thanks

For those bashing all the people that may be eligible for this you need to stop and think before you insult those that rightfully need these services. Take me for example. I probably get to take anti depressants for the rest of my life. Every night is a struggle to get sleep. I average about five hours a night of constantly interrupted sleep. When I do sleep I have nightmare about death. I can still close my eyes and see a mom bringing her five year old son’s lifeless body to us trying to get help. I can still imagine the smell of death as if I’m still in Iraq. My memory is shot and I can’t concentrate. Do you know how hard that makes getting through school. I used to be able to get A’s easily without much effort and now I work my butt off just to get B’s. Guess who sent me over there? The government. Guess who’s freedoms I was supposedly defending? All of yours. So don’t mind me if I’m happy to get $250. It may not be much but when your struggling to rebuild a life you know will never be the same, it goes a long way. So keep in mind that while there are people who don’t deserve it, the vast majority do and for many reasons.

AS FOR THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENTAL BIGOTS ABOVE:

When I was healthy I had a large farmhouse 2 cars and traveled. I was a snob. My ancestors came to America in 1641. I used to consider people on welfare and those living in projects to be trash. Since my health gave out and I lost everything I am now on ssi, live in a project and receive food stamps. God’s poetic justice? It can happen to anyone–witness the Madoff collapse. I do not keep a gun in my house as I am afraid if I did I would shoot myself intentionally. I am an artist.
I tried many jobs and found the largest obstacle, aside from my panic disorder was co-workers obsessed with determining that I was gay and then abusing me–especially at Medtronic in Santa Rosa, CA. I do not like most gay men and wish I weren’t gay. It’s very lonely, I don’t like the stereotype, don’t like pretending to be something I’m not–straight–having to measure every word; don’t like prissy men and most gay men–I have met thousands–are not happy campers. I have a woman friend who wanted to marry me years ago but I told her I could not deceive her by living a lie. This discrimination is just one more way that hatefulness of people who are different costs society. At least I don’t have any children for the tax payers to support and educate.
The anti-ssi anti-welfare idiots talk about funding for social programs as if this money were thrown into an incinerator. All this money goes right back into the economy unless there’s a few cents left to save. This is an industry–the poverty industry. Entire cities in devastated former industrial power houses like Cleveland, Erie, Utica NY, Buffalo, Syracuse, Jamestown NY, Binghamton NY and many others are tenuously surviving on ssi life support. Without it most would collapse into ghost towns taking down millions of elderly people who have lived their all lifelong often in homes of their ancestors. In cities like Utica–where half the population has left along with industry ssi supports: psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, grocery stores, clothing stores, thrift shops, private landlords, furniture stores, doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, pharmacists, stationers, etc. etc. In a long dying tragic city like Utica only 50 people on ssi bring in over one million dollars per year in desperately needed federal support–without this funding old neighborhoods–what’s left of them–and most of the city would implode completely–a Dresden WWII scenario. To date nearly half of Buffalo has been bulldozed as if there has been a war. Many elderly who have paid off mortgages on homes where they have lived for a generation or more are virtually prisoners behind locked doors as their neighborhoods “crack”, explode, and burn. It is wise not to judge others unless you have walked in their shoes–many kind, good once productive people are suffering immensely in disposable cities abandoned and raped by American capitalism.

JANET–You better pray God doesn’t strike you down. Pride goeth before a fall. …and thanks for paying this gay man’s bills! You might live to be old and dependent one day. Fortune changes.

JANET–…and who pays for your kids’ schools? The taxpayers, especially the rich with large real estate holdings who may have no kids in school or send them to private schools. In effect your kids’ educations are subsidized by property owners–especially the rich. If you can’t afford to pay for your kids education and don’t want to mooch off taxpayers keep your legs crossed.

Sorry excuse for a soldier? You have absolutely no idea what the hell your talking about. I had the option to not go but I chose to go because of my buddies to the left and right of me. I didn’t want a new person taking my spot when my platoon had been together for a while. What you don’t understand is it’s not just depression. Don’t compare me to your brother. Just because you know what he’s going through doesn’t mean you know my issues from a comment left on a message board. I do work study at the employment office helping other veterans. I also go to school full time to get a degree in computer science. I don’t just sit on my lazy ass. I’m not just waiting for the government to send me money. If Iraq is no big deal then why aren’t you there now. Why don’t you go see your friends die. Just because I came back physically whole doesn’t mean I came back whole. This isn’t just some clinical depression. But you would never understand that. I really don’t like think I’m better than anyone else but I think everyone else is better than you. Your a sorry excuse for a human being. Like I said go over their yourself and see what you come back like. I guarantee you seeing the worst humanity has to offer will change your whole outlook on the world and it won’t be for the better.

I’m not trying to get into arguments here. It’s a message board and nothing gets solve. Some people are narrow minded and you can’t convince them one way or another. But to those that look at both sides of the situation before forming an opinion, remember that most of the people that get SSI or any form of disability do actually need it. I’m sure they much rather work and be like they were before the disability but that isn’t an option. I would trade all this disability money to be normal again but that isn’t going to happen either. For now I will fight until my last breath to get my degree in computer science, get a good job, and raise a family.

There are some nasty comments on here. I’m not going to attack any specific person but my heart just died a little knowing there are people willing to attack of all people a soldier who went to war. I guess that’s your prerogative.

Does your disabilities cause you to be stupid? Seriously. You don’t have a damn thing wrong with you. Your just some jackass causing problems on a message board like it makes you special. I don’t just have depression. If you could read you would know that but it looks like all you care about is talking crap like you’re some kind of special person. Your not. Guess what. I served this nation. I put my life on the line every day when I didn’t have to. I served to protect your freedom to make uneducated and ignorant comments on message boards. Let see you do the same thing. Quit talking out your ass and join the military. Then you can go to war and see what death and destruction is all about. Guess what your tax dollars are also used for. Education, law enforcement, roads, national defense and countless other services that if we didn’t have we would probably be another third world country. So now lets follow the path. Maybe I can break it down in terms that a judgmental bigot can understand. What keeps you safe from all those terrorist and others that want to do harm to Americans is our national defense? Which is funded by the tax payers. This is rightfully so since every one in this country benefits from it. Unfortunately, not everyone has what it takes to give up their freedoms and put their life on the line. So if someone comes back all messed up as a result of keeping every American safe is it not the right thing to do to help those that need it. I know the answer when it comes to you. It a big fat NO. You want to know why? Because you have nothing better to do but to complain. So Janet, you have fun with that. I don’t care. I’m not going to kill myself. I don’t care what you do either. The only reason I am responding is so those reading your messages see the other side of the equation. So you have a fun life because your hate changes nothing. It will only consume you.

When I see all the people who get online and attack each other Anonomously, I think the internet is not helping people get along at all. It seems like it is making people LESS Human and LESS Sympathetic to people and their problems. It seems like if you have money, you are admired and you are thought to be GOOD people. On the other hand, if you are less fortunate and have health issues, were born to a poor or unstable family or just did not have the education advantages of others, you are attacked. I wish I could say the internet is good but from what I see…it isolates people and they sit in their lonely little world and attack others. I say be thankful for what you have, but don’t attack others because they haven’t had the same good forture that you have. Don’t assume it is because they don’t work HARD….you can work many jobs at minimum wage and still be POOR. You can also be a trust fund baby and never work a day of your life. Either way….it is not your place to Judge or Condemn others…when you don’t know them or what they are truly going through.

To Janet

I have a job. Like I said if you could read you would know that. The purpose of va benefits is not to get free money. It to compensate you for injuries that you recieved while on active duty. Injuries you would probably never have if you weren’t in the military. Thats why it’s called compensation. Look that word up if you don’t know the meaning. I don’t care what your issues are. You are a mother who’s telling a soldier who risked his life to keep your family safe to kill himself. Now not only are you a horrible person you are a horrible mother. Look up PTSD. It’s not just depression. And that’s on top of all the other injuries I got while in the Army. I don’t care if you can’t join because of your disability. Buy a plane ticket a go to Iraq on your own. I look forward to the internet video of your head being cut off. Save your children from growing up and becoming like you. In fact do the whole world a favor because your obviously too good to be on this earth with a bunch of “lazy people.” It’s obvious why you have all those problems. It’s karma’s way of punishing you. Now I have to go do school work so I can contribute more to society then being a customer service rep who is filled with hate. Good Day……………………………….I said good day.

Janet 03.11.09 at 10:47 pm
Brenda that is what i am saying . I was raised on welfare and ssi as a kid i remember how my mom could do anything but get a job. We as children suffer. I pisses me off to see the systme abused. I have two compressed disks in my back, cronic migraines, tumor in my arm and i have clinical depression. I work as a customer service rep at a desk some days are bad but my life is a lot better. Because i work my kids are able to ride in a bran new car and have almost everything they want. I pay taxes and one day people who abuse the system will eat up all my benifits that i have been working for so many years for. I think right along the same lines i will do what i have to do to make sure i take care of myself. I would die if i had to live off someone else i would feel worthless like all these people should.

Hmmmm. Your a customer service rep huh? Any people here who are customer service reps who make over the threshold to pay taxes. My guess is you get a refund at the end of the year. In fact, I believe you file for earned income credit. That’s unless you have a husband or boyfriend in which case your not doing this alone. Unlike some people here. So somehow I doubt you pay much taxes at all. I pay taxes too so in a way I’m paying for myself. Maybe you should be more like the person that posted under Love, Compassion and Goodwill. They understand that not everyone is abusing the system. There are a few that do but they are the minority. Honestly I don’t know why I waste my time typing. Maybe it’s a need to defend myself against those that have no clue what’s going on. It seems a little petty to me but I take offense to someone calling me a sorry excuse for a soldier and telling me to kill myself. I have friends that are never coming back. They never got the opportunity to “kill themselves.” It hurts greatly to think they died helping you. Luckily I know that people like you aren’t the norm. That when given the chance most people are glad to help out another. It’s just unfortunate that someone may rely on someone with your character.

FYI. I was an infantry soldier with the 101st. I don’t get SSI, I get VA compensation. I have a work study job while I attend school. I don’t get much in compensation. It’s not just depression but you wouldn’t know that because you can’t read my other posts. You already said you were disable but I didn’t think you were stupid. How did you get a job when you have no sort of reading comprehension. Unlike you I can back up my claims. Come see me at 754 NW Fieldcrest Way, Beaverton, OR 97006. It’s a place called Quatama Crossings. I didn’t give you my apartment number because I have to have some secrets. By the way my name is Christopher Henkel. I don’t need to hide behind the internet. You lost.

One more point because I’m trying to do homework at the same time and I missed a point. Take a look at your statement:

….We may have money but you and scum like you take it kinda funny that the only reason you have to be on ssi is depression but you can get into the military the military is very stirict on who enters and what they have medicaly.

I get VA compensation as a result of what happened in Iraq. I didn’t have any problems before I joined the military. You obviously can’t read because I stated that in my other posts. Other things you obviously missed out on:

1. I have a job. I work with veterans at the employment office helping them find jobs.

2. I get VA compensation for PTSD and chronic migraines.
PTSD is not just depression but I figured you wouldn’t know even though you claimed to have a brother with PTSD. See I actually read your posts.

3. I was on the front lines. 1/327 IN BN 101st Airborne Division. AIR ASSUALT!!! I may have come back but you wouldn’t know what war is like do you. DO YOU? No you don’t because you were never there. I have friends that were there don’t count. I have barely said a word about things I did there and things I saw. For people that really have PTSD, it take a lot just to talk about your experiences.

4. What training should I take from the military? How to kill people? Just considering your intellegence you showed in your previous posts I assume you don’t know that killing people isn’t a transferable skill outside the military.

5. Your tax dollars go to a lot of useful things. Schools, roads, law enforcement, national defense, ect. So paying for the damage done to soldier while protecting your freedoms is a small price to pay. Just for your own benefit. The money alotted to veterans in the FY 2009 amounted to about 1.5% of the government’s total spending.

6. I pay taxes another thing you would know if actually could read. I do get my federal taxes back. I think I got about $200. I didn’t get the taxes back for social security and medacare. I don’t care. Then again I don’t mind helping those worse off. I guess I lack the selfishness you gained somewhere in your life.

I mean that’s a few of the things that I put in my various post that seem to go right past your tiny head. Why I wonder. Do they not fit the argument that I’m a lazy sorry excuse for a soldier? People like you don’t take in all the information presented to you. Either because it contridicts your beliefs or your just looking to hate on someone else. Most likely because your bitter about your own life so you like to drag other people down. (I took a little psychology. I’m not a professional but I’ve ran into people like you and the pattern with all of you is the same.) Nothing you say or do will get me down. I won’t stop taking the compensation because I actually know I deserve it and you can’t say anything different. There’s a difference between knowing people that were in the Army and actually being there. So nothing you say about me carries any weight. I’m just enjoying the back and forth with you while I type my report for my English class. The more you type, the dumber you look. Eventually I have to stop though. I can sometime let my emotions get the best of me and I don’t want people thinking I’m just as uneducated as you. Hopefully, I provided a few people with insight that your posts lack. The end.

P.S. I hope I didn’t use too many big words for you. That might also be another reason you can seem to grasp what I type. So go to a mirror, make a big L by placing your thumb and pointer finger as perpidicular as possible to each other, place that L on your forehead, look into the mirrow, and see yourself for who you really are…….I hate filled LOSER.

Good for your brother. I work 25 hours. I know it’s not 40+ but when you factor in school I spend well over 50 hours a week doing something contructive with my life. Thanks for proving my point about you being stupid. For one, the post about working 40+ a week is barely understandable but I figure that’s because you let your anger get the best of you and wanted to post a message as quickly as possible. The second is Oregon is a state. It has state funds but the federal funds from which I get my compensation is different. To get my benefits I had to go through a bunch of test performed by VA doctors and if you knew anything about the process you would know they look for any possible reason not to give out money. I feel sorry for you Janet. I truly do. I guess ignorance truly is bliss.

Again stupidity is prevelant in your post. Let me break it down in dummy terms. Your making me type more than I need to Janet. Infantry is a type of MOS (Look it up). It’s like the title of a job. You have the Infantry, Medics, Supply, ect. See how it’s a job title. Infantry soldiers are the ones that are trained to fight and kill. 101st Airborne Division is the base that’s located at a place called Fort Campbell Kentucky. It has four combat brigades which consist of about three battalions of infantry soldiers broken down further into companies. The combat brigades include the 187 Rakkasans, 327 Bastogne, 502 Strike, and the 506 Currahee.

Like I said the more you post the dumber you look.

to just me and all you snivvle snots grow up keep your damned legs closed and quit your complaining, especially “just me”,what are you looking for, sympathy?if you can’t afford the the brats don’t have them.i detest the octu-mom but at least she’s up front and greedy, you’re either ignorant, stupid or greedy.all you snivvlers grow up the disabled vets deserve it,they at least did something for their country, you’ve done nothing, except sit back and complain about what others have earned with sacrafice.i am one of them as well and i didn’t ask forit but they’re giving it so i’ll take it,stop belly aching and man up or woman up,bunch of lazy cruds.

I’ve read through most of the comments. There is one thing that concerns me greatly. Where in the world did you learn to spell?

I understand typographical errors and even abbreviations, but seriously folks. How can we, as a nation, expect to rebuild our economy if we aren’t teaching our children the basics? How can we ensure the children are getting a quality education if we can’t form complete sentences or even spell simple words?

The lack of focus on education has given us a significant portion of the population that cannot compete with other nations in science, math or literature. It is appalling! If you think you can’t afford an education, go to your local library and check out some books to read. It doesn’t cost anything and you will at least experience a world where words are spelled correctly and sentences make sense.

As for the $250; I know how that money can feed a family of four for a little over 8 weeks. Angel Food Ministries

P.S. Christopher, good luck to you. I commend you for working, going to school and dealing with your disability at the same time. It is not easy. There is a phrase; ‘let bygones be bygones’ – in this case, I would say – ‘let morons be morons’. Again, good luck and I wish you well.

A friend once told me that americans were the most…ungreatful, picky, lazy, materialistic, wasteful, and bigest whiners..known to our world.
(you know i think she is right!)

My comment is based on those people that have the gall to complain that
$250.00 is not enough for them. Maybe they should donate there’s to charity so people that really could use it get some help. Then they will
have no reason to complain.

Janet, you are an idiot! Everybody can tell you are a bitter, no account, non-sympathetic low life. So, you think that everybody should get off their dead butts and get a job? Unlike you…I do have sympathy for all the horrible things you’ve had to endure. As for me, I DO get SSI and foodstamps, and am not ashamed to admit it!

I have worked all my life paying taxes into Social Security. In fact, on the very day I graduated from High School, I got my very first job. I have worked my tail to the bone, then decided to enter the Military to serve my country.

I became ill with a horrible disease called Crohn’s. For the past 20 years, I have been admitted to the hospital so many times, I have lost count. My hospital stays, average anywhere from 10 to 25 days, with doctors trying to keep me from bleeding to death from all of the open ulcers that cover my entire small intestines.

Not only that, the medicine I took for the last 20 years, called Prednisone, (a steroid typically used in the treatment of Crohn’s disease)practically destroyed my bones. As a result, I broke both of my shoulders, and my right hip, and I was only 29 years old at the time.

Some days, the pain in my shoulders is so bad, that my only resource is to lay down and not move, because the pain will get worse if I move even a little.

I don’t use drugs, nor do I drink alcohol. You lump everybody together and that’s not fair. God forbid, that someday you WILL have to have help from the government, and then I’m sure you will change your bitter tune.

Get off your high horse Janet…it’s a long way to fall, and hurts when you hit the ground!

I am a single 30 year old woman on SSI due to some chronic health issues. (I do not feel that anyone should have to defend their position against commentors such as Janet, etc. by defining their disability). Contrary to some common held beliefs, I am not a druggie or gambler. I do not have a brood of children by different fathers collecting benefits for them. I try to live a decent life and share housing costs with my mom and brother. I attend college when I am able to, and do well academically.

Being on SSI is no gravy train! Out of the $674.oo monthly stipend, one must pay their housing, utility and transportation costs. Also, one must humble themselves. They often live in substandard housing, having poor access to medical care (it is not easy to find a good doctor who accepts Medicaid) and carrying the stigma of someone who is on welfare. While there are those who do abuse the system, the large majority whom I know, do not. Oh, and I have great sympathy and respect for the soldier who posted in previous comments. To insult a disabled veteran (Christopher) who witnessed horrors beyond what some of us can comprehend, is a true disgrace.

Here is a question I can’t get answered. I am a 100% rated disabled vet but I also receive SS Disability. Which$250.00 payment am I eligible for or do I qualify for both? Help would be greatfully appreciated. Thank You
