$250 stimulus check for SSI Recipients In 2010

In 2010, President Obama will be paying out a $250 stimulus check to all eligible recipients of SSI which is stands for “Supplemental Security Income”.  This $250 payment is part of his ongoing efforts to stimulate the poor economy out of recession.

Who is eligible for the $250 stimulus?

Anyone who is currently receiving SSI payments will be eligible for the $250 check.  There are also some other groups who will receive this check including Social Security recipients and disabled veterans.

When will the $250 checks be paid out?

It is not known at this time when the payments will be made but it is likely that they will be paid in the first quarter of 2010 (ie before the end of March).

Is there any income limit for the $250 payment?

No, it doesn’t matter if you have other income or if you are working or not.  It doesn’t matter how much income you make – you will still get the check.

How much will this cost the government?

According to White house officials, the cost of all the stimulus checks will be $13 billion.  A large amount of money but don’t forget that the stimulus package for 2009 was almost $800 billion.

Why is the government doing this?

The government is giving out this money in order to try to stimulate the economy.  Because of problems in the financial markets and housing markets over the last 2 years, there has been a slowdown in economic activity in America and many job losses.  By putting extra money into the economy it is hoped that the decline of the economy can be slowed down or even reversed.

Will it be a check or electronic payment?

The $250 should be given to you in the same format you currently receive your regular Social Security payment.  If you get your SS payment by check then the $250 will also be by check.  If you get your SS payment deposited in to your bank account then the $250 will also be deposited into your bank account.

I really wonder whose running this government. People don’t seem to care about others who need that extra cash.they are so worried that we are go ing to spend it they just keep their hands in their pockets and are playing with themselves. why do people on FOOD Stamps not get a stimulus check and Medicad or medicare that do not have any income to be able to go and get a yearly physical.there are a lot of people that go without this because they don’t Have money to go to A Doctor .

Hi guys – It is my understanding that this $250 stimulus for 2010 still has to pass through more judicial hoops before it will be approved. I have had little success in contacting Social Security directly to get any concrete answers – simply that something is in the “‘works”. I believe the 2009 payout of $250 started in May and being a “W’ last name I did not receive mine until the beginning of June. I would imagine that the proposal will go through the same channels this year and we should hear something -yea or nay- within the next six weeks. Glad to have found this website and I appreciate your diligence in pursuit of this matter – OLY- thank you. Thanks to everyone who has written in also – I was beginning to think I had imagined the whole thing!

Also ANNE 24 – If you are low income and qualify for food stamps it almost goes hand in hand that you can receive Medicaid. There’s quite a bit of paperwork to fill out but if you put some effort and time into it you CAN get Medicaid. Those of us that are receiving Social Security or Supplemental Security Income – are either retired or have gone through rigorous scrutiny to qualify for SSI and have to prove that we are unable to work. So it’s based more on whether you are at retirement age or considered disabled ( I had a brain surgery and recently a cancer surgery). I hope this adds a little clarity – they really are aiming these stimulus to people that are older or simply unable to work. Sincerely – Wendy

For folks like me who are on limited, yet government-sponsored, income, there are still numerous ways to EARN money.
I recognize that true SS recipients paid into the system (which, BTW does not exist in other countries). And I truly hope that valid SSI recipients (and there are many just scammin’ the system) are genuinely grateful that SSI even exists.
Unfortunately, I see posts and whining like this that want to make me vomit.

Sure, we got problems with ethics and greed and apathy. But we Americans are truly blessed. Unfortunately, the prevailing mood always seems to be ‘entitlement’. Personally, I’m sick of it.

If ya need mo’ money, and you’re old enough to THINK…..there are people/companies/services/organizations/non-profits who are willing to compensate you….and/or provide you with a rewarding experience of helping others in WORSE SHAPE THAN YOU!

At some point, those who ARE physically and mentally capable…should be responsible for themselves.

I have seen just so many mooches who (literally) buy pinball machines with government checks, and who otherwise abuse and capitalize from the system that was intended for those in REAL NEED.

I am a dissabled vet just barely getting by , and I have a daughter in college I was really in dyer need of this $250. stimulus check since we never recieved a cola increase this year. Dr. Olson , I say Dr. because i have that much respect for you. If we all would just go to our local congressional office and read the by laws and bills ,we would understand things better . From my understanding and i am not completely up to date with all the bills ,but when Social Security Monthly payments were established a bill was at that time put in act for us to receive cola each year until the end of our benefits.

Jess, i agree with you some what ,because the little money we do get we need to invest it in something other than just bills .As the saying goes you have to spend money to make money if you have it an its just sitting there and you’re just spending it and not adding anything to it nothings is going to profit. don’t rely on a government, or any other agency (non-profit or otherwise) to take care of your needs.

The Bible does refer to, and directs all peoples, to take do what it takes to take care of youself and your family…and to offer aid to those who need your help.

Self-reliance is all I’m preaching.

It seems like everyone on this blog is excpecting some kind of divine intervention (aka government assistance) to resolve their problems.

I’m just sick of teh whiners and those who feel entitled just because they have American citizenship. Life throws every one of us a curveball (or two or three, or more). Just because YOU can’t hit it doesn’t mean you deserve to have someone else try and hit it for you.

And I’m tired of people going on about how God will fix everything, God has nothing to do with it, the bible is not always right (in most of the cases), and not everyone who comes here is religious and wants that CRAP shoved down their throats.

We will get the check if and when the government gets it head out of its ass.

I personally think that the Government has never given a damn about the poor, and like they say, the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. I’m sure Congress and everyone else at the White House eat very well. While we’re surviving on tuna sandwiches they’re living it up eating steak and lobster, going on elaborate vacations etc. on tax payers expense. We just have to be thankful that at least we have ssi. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll hit the lottery and then we can tell the government we don’t need them anymore.

Look people lets be realistic. You can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip. So how can you squeeze 13 billion out of the government? Where is this money supposed to come from? A while back, a friend of mine who was on “General Assistance” was cut off the program without warning. The state we live in was low on funds. If this economy gets worse than what it is, people on ssi and social security could get cut too. So please be thankful for what you have. Maybe if our government would stop helping other countries in need and start helping our country instead. GO USA!!!!!!

I don’t have so much of a problem of making sacrifices for my country it’s how they went about it that outrages me so bad..I mean they pass a stimulous to save their presious wallstreet and pass mass money to bail out huge banks and fail automotive industries..Then make the ederly and disabled who have either worked hard to retire or served this country in the military or just flat out disabled take the biggest hits to pay for the garbage..Atleast When President Bush was faced with the absolute worst horrific attack on this soil and had to make the tough tough decisions to go to war he did not come after the elderlies and disabled money to pat the almost a trillion dollars to pay for the wars…people still got their raises and stil got stimulous checks also..This lame excuse of no inflation while we are in a recesion is just a bunk excuse…This government seems to think wallstreet and the dow is the entire economy well with out people having jobs or money to spend wallstreet will fail..And all the money the gov handed them to bail them out will just be nothing more then a temp fix of wallstreet only…because it sure isnt helping everyday hardworking families that are losing their jobs ,homes, etc etc….

Mom of twins I have had over 36 operations since I was 12yrs. I truly need all the help I can get. President obama is on our side!! He is trying to push the bill to help the sick,retired and elderly he is doing his best to help the working man and those who truly need help.also he is trying to clean up a mess that bush made who was only trying to help the rich. Well, I have just been informed, that although Obama approved for the disabled and elderly to receive a $250.00 stimulus check in 2010, Last week congress voted it out. 50 to 47..And we all have Sen Judd Gregg to thank for it !! Maybe these Senators should have to live on the amounts we get for just two months, and they would be pulling their hair out, deciding which bills can get paid and which can’t, do we pay for our medication, or do we buy groceries…I’m sure none of them would like it much !

Well i’d want to say that i’m disabled and that SSI is the ONLY way i’m able to live .I’d DIE WITHOUT IT! I can’t work becasue i’m Disabled so untill your in that boat and now what its like to go hungry and live on the streets then you can all kiss my republican ASS! hi ppl well l;et me leave in saying im on there to say god is good all tha time he will make a way for everyone, well my daugther get’s ssi bout 674.00 month and i think tha lord that she get that to help her out bout her health thats why she gets it but if obama signs in for 250.00 then he sign it but if he increse it to 500.00 that will help lots of people out for there income that they do recieve for there family members i hope that everyboby will income will increse for the yr 2011 the people that ges ssi,ssd,ss thats what i hope.the government needs ti increase it for 2011 cause people need it.

Jess…let me just say this…the way the goverment is doing things, and the way the economy is, if changes aren’t made, and if we can’t get help to even bail ourselves out, there will be no future for “our kids” So get off your high horse, and As much as I believe in God and the bible, it’s not going to help us now. God didn’t create these problems, Government did, and government needs to fix it.! We don’t feel that we are OWED another check(as you so rudely put it) but we had hoped for help. Maybe if the government stop worrying about and sending mony to other countries, and worry about our own country first, things wouldn’t be so bad ! If we can’t afford to help our own people in our own country…then wher does the money come from to send to “other” countries??

Try having worked hard at a
“sweat shop”since the age of 15, plus going to school, plus helping raise your younger siblings. Having been atheletic,and still continue to work very hard at a job,years later, and then one day have all of your vitality pulled out from under you…and be stuck in a wheel chair, trying to figure out just how to live off less then 800 a month !( Heck I made that much in two weeks before) so don’t feed me the stuff about God and the bible, and that it’s going to help me out of this situation. Am I bitter? You can bet your bippy I am ! I am not even 55 yet, and can’t work anymore ! NADA, ZIP, nothing ! Now I have to spend my time wondering which bill can be paid, and which one might be able to wait, do I pay for meds or do I buy food. SO YES, Jess….I WAS really hoping for another stimulus check ! It sure would have helped alot ! And NO it wasn’t going to be used for frivolous things !! Although they would be nice to have, I have to look at things logically. The only reason I even have a computer and internet, is because my son bought me the comp. and he pays for my internet. You know absolutely nothing about me, nor my situation. Nor, and quite the opposite, do I sit on a ‘high horse’ looking down. While I am semi-retired, there has never been a cushion for me or my family.. There are no pension or savings or 401k resources.

The key word in your statement is HELP. I agree there is obligation at local, state and federal levels to provide assistance to those in need. But the government structure we so proudly hail was not instituted to TAKE CARE of its citizens. Believe me, I truly recognize the flaws of politicians. It hasn’t changed in 5,000 years! Many are greedy, self-serving, obstinate, insulated, oblivious, and all the rest of the human characteristics. Unfortunately, those with the ‘good’ traits ( you know: compassionate, sincere, dedicated, etc.) are not attracted to the political stage.

I’ll say it again, it is your obligation to yourself…to provide for yourself. If you’re gonna depend on help, it may never come.

By the way, our founding fathers thought it was a good idea to be leaders in the ‘helping other countries’ theory. Sure, I’d like to see more of the bucks stay here and be used to fund repair (and creation) of various US infrastructures, putting people and companies to work.

Those who keep voting to send large amounts of our money overseas will not be in office to do it again.

If the goverenment wouldnt have took our raises in the first place , No one would be worried about this $250 stimulus we all no its not much but it could do alot for alot of people .. And when you think about it they took our raises and if you figure out our raises for last year and add it up its approx $444 and if you minus the $250 stimulus they where gonna give theres $194 approz each person the goverent ment more or less makes .. So we are not asking for anything extra just part of what we where supposed to get…

The historical, and mandated, cost-of-living increases are based on indices that reflect…..lower costs. There’s documentation (AARP, etc.) all over the place that suggests COLA was not applicable for 2010 and already, possibly, 2011.
That is what this forum is all about…reminding the politicos that we’re here, and waiting, and they’d better not forgot about a terrific force (seniors) they are foolin’ with.
The stimulus concept did NOT do what is was supposed to have done last year– put $$$ into the economy.
Sure, I wouldn’t mind a one-time shot of $250, but not at the expense of yet more deficit. Gimme a break; where to think the money for this is supposed to come from?

Please do the math: $250 puts 68 cents a day into your pocket over a year. Life’s too short. Why waste your breath?

I just called my local Social Security office about this issue of not recieving the checks. The person I spoke with told me that they haven’t heard anything about it, and as far as she was concerned, we were still going to get them!? Hopefully she knows what she is talking about and that this is true!

why not give the stimulus we didn’t get the usually raise for all those years we got that little raise.We get OBAMA and it all stops Something that has been going on for years.Oh i forgot a change is gonna come right WHEN

I really hope that the ssi recipients do recieve their stimulus check this year 2010 because as a mom, wife with no job it’s very hard to live without any or little funds.

from what i read on here last week, there will be NO 250 . they voted on it two weeks ago and the vote was 50 to 47. not in our faver. I myself hope this comes to the table again, but dont count on it.
